Story of Two Islands
The Moana Lesson: Why Our System is "Blighted"
Right now, our community is acting like the village in Moana. We are staying "inside the reef" because we think it’s safe, but the island is dying.
👉🏻The Dying Island (The "Blight")
In the movie, the coconuts turn black and the fish disappear.
In our world, this is the failing economy, rising food prices, and dry soil. We keep trying the old ways (jobs, shops, traditional systems) but they aren't working anymore because the "heart" of the land has been taken.
👉🏻The Fear of the Reef
Moana’s father was scared of the ocean because he didn't have the skills to sail it.
• The Lesson: People are terrified of "self-reliance" (growing their own food, off-grid energy, new ways of living) because they’ve forgotten how to do it. It feels like a storm, so they stay on the dying island instead.
👉🏻The "Crazy" Ones are the Map-Keepers
Grandma Tala was called "crazy" because she remembered the old ways of navigating the stars.
• The Lesson: If you are starting to grow your own food or fix the soil while others just complain, people might call you "crazy." Don't worry 🥹you aren't crazy; you are just remembering the skills everyone else forgot.
👉🏻Turning the Demon back into a Goddess
The "scary fire demon" (Te Kā) was actually just the Earth Goddess who had her heart stolen.
• The Lesson: Nature only becomes "angry" (floods, droughts, hunger) when we stop taking care of it. When we "restore the heart" by fixing the soil and planting trees, the "demon" of destruction turns back into a source of life.
👉🏻Be the Wayfinder
Moana didn't wait for a "job" or permission. She took a boat and learned to sail by watching the stars.
• The Bottom Line: We can’t wait for the "Chief" (the government or big business) to save us. We have to be Wayfinders 🫵🏽 the ones brave enough to learn new skills and find a better way to live.
"The ocean chose you" means the world needs someone brave enough to see the problem and start fixing it. Why shouldn't it be you?
