Way back in 2022 we transformed old kitchen cupboards destined for scrap into a functional 30-frame langstroth horizontal beehive which has been home to a rescued bee colony for 4 years ๐Ÿ

As part of our annual winter maintenance routine, we decided to rehome the colony so that we can work on potential modifications which will improve practicality and longevity of the box into the future ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

This bee colony is notoriously spicy and they typically donโ€™t appreciate being disturbed. However, on this warm winterโ€™s afternoon, the bees co-operated beautifully. We located the queen and placed her gently in her new home and within a few minutes the colony followed and started to march into the beehive ๐Ÿค“

It was fascinating to watch the bees create a โ€œBee Bridgeโ€ of sorts with the bees interlocking their bodies to create a platform for other bees to cross over into their new home. Bees coming together, making sacrifices, all to the benefit and progress of the whole. Teamwork ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ

Itโ€™s always a pleasure learning something from these special creatures.ย

The Honey Collective this week hosted an enthusiastic group of travellers all the way from the USA ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฒ for a mid-winter Bee Experience ๐Ÿ

Sharing the joy of beekeeping is a privilege and we discussed various aspects of beekeeping including equipment, forage, honey, bee biology, pest control, hive dynamics and much more! ๐Ÿฏ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒณ

There's so much to learn and understand about bees and the best way to learn is through close observation and practical, hands-on experience while having a ton of fun at the same time! ๐Ÿค“

We look forward to the next one!

Thank you Flash Pack and Amazing Africa for making this possible โ™ฅ๏ธ

Following a prolonged period of drought in late summer, our honeybee colonies have endured and so have we! While we lost our summer harvest to drought, nature has blessed us with a phenomenal
autumn Fynbos honey harvest ๐Ÿฏ๐Ÿ

Spending time in our Fynbos apiary with the warm autumn sun on our backs was just magical โœจ

With wet and colder weather in the forecast, we timed this harvest perfectly and we'll be spending the next few days in full honey production mode, a time of great joy and gratitude for the bees that give us so much pleasure and fulfilment โ™ฅ๏ธ

We cherish each and every drop of honey and each honey harvest is special and unique in its own right. We can't wait to share this wonderful autumn Tsitsikamma Fynbos Honey with you!

The Honey Collective hosted an enthusiastic group of globe-trotting travelers this week for a unique Bee Experience in The Crags, Plettenberg Bay ๐Ÿ

Hot and humid conditions didn't stop anyone from jumping into bee suits and heading into the bee yard to examine a working honeybee colony up close ๐Ÿ˜Ž

The smell of honey was in the air and we were happy to find a few frames of beautifully capped honey ๐Ÿฏ

This comes after a prolonged drought on the Garden Route which saw most, if not all, of our honey boxes empty earlier in the year.

Knowledge was shared, insight was gained and we all left with a better understanding of these industrious and utterly fascinating insects ๐Ÿ๐Ÿฏ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿž๏ธ

Thanks and for making this happen ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

The Honey Collective this week hosted another fun and engaging Bee Tour in collaboration with and at the beautiful .falls in The Crags, Plettenberg Bay ๐Ÿž๏ธ

Fine weather, hot coffee and good moods set the tone for a fantastic morning of sharing bee knowledge and experiencing the inner workings of a honeybee colony ๐Ÿ

Guests jumped into bee suits and spent time learning about the magical life of a honeybee and sweet honey they produce ๐Ÿฏ

The Garden Route is experiencing a severe drought with water shortages, persistent hot weather and dry wind putting pressure on the local fauna and flora, including our honeybees! We are hoping for rain soon!๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐ŸŒง๏ธ

We are looking forward to the next one! ๐ŸŽ‰

Summer is here and swarms are on the move ๐Ÿ

This swarm arrived today and quickly made themselves at home in one of our bee boxes inside our work shed, not the most practical place to have them squat ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

We will give them a few days to settle in and then we will prepare to relocate them into one of our permanent apiary sites where they will enjoy the freedom of the wild and produce honey for us to enjoy ๐Ÿฏ๐ŸŒ„๐Ÿž๏ธ

Catching swarms is always an exciting experience and we always look forward to providing a home for bees ๐Ÿ

๐Ÿ“ข๐Ÿ New Bee Tour Launched ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ“ข

The Honey Collective was thrilled to welcome guests from all over world this week for our first ever Bee Tour in collaboration with and ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰

Guests arrived at the beautiful .falls in The Crags where they were welcomed by Honey Collective co-founder and host .

Guests enjoyed tea and coffee in the sunshine and got a basic introduction into beekeeping and the world of bees before climbing into bee suits for a peek inside some of our beehives ๐Ÿ

There's so much these little creatures can teach us. Many questions were asked and knowledge was shared but most importantly, we had lots of fun together and shared many laughs! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

We also managed to spot the Queen and got a deeper understanding and appreciation for the life of our Capensis honeybees and the vital role they play in the environment ๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒฑ

We would like to thank and show appreciation for every participant for creating a magical and memorable experience and for donating a new bee box which will soon provide a safe home for bees to thrive and to enable us to continue our work in conserving and protecting the environment in which we live โ™ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿ From us and the bees, we give you a big heartfelt thank you for your courage, kindness and generosity.

We look forward to the next Bee Tour in November 2025!
