There is nothing as tantalizing as the unbothered zebras that visit the garden everyday as our free lawnmowing service ! 🦓🚜

Tikka, our shepherd dog, hitches but is being good 😌 She watches the zebras carefully, while keeping calm and not giving chase.

In our pig pastures, we have two resident springboks ! 🦌

These guys are pretty tamed - although we do not pet wildlife like we do with our pets 🧐 They let me approach them quite close when I do not have the dogs following me around 😂

They stay all day in our pastures close to the house, and probably sleep there too. We often see them hanging out with the sheep, and browsing or grazing alongside the pigs ☺️

Fortunately, they don’t mess with the electric fence, contrary to the naughty zebras ! 🦓🤬

The best part of having piglets is to see them growing and growing every single week ! 😌

You can definitely see a massive difference in their height and girth as they grow, and we know these little guys will give the juiciest meat ever 🍖 As the piglets are a mixed breed, we are getting the beautiful, marbled meat from the Duroc, with a fast growing rate from the Landrace.
They already look so healthy and energetic ! ☺️

This week, we made an aspiring pig farmer very happy as he came to pick up his first boar from our farm ! 😍

A few months ago, we welcomed two young pure-bred Duroc boars and two gilts on the farm, as we were slowly replacing our breeding stock 🐷 But, with Julius, our main reproductive boar and also a pure Duroc, we could not keep two more boars or some fights would have occurred 🥊

At 7 months old, we decided to find a new forever home for Prince D., a pure-bred Duroc boar in excellent condition that just needed to start working 😇
Duroc boars have a strong libido, and this poor guy was making soap and kneading bread on a daily basis … 😂

So, bye bye, Prince D. and enjoy your new b*tches ! 👋 Little snout boup ! 🐽

These last few weeks, life has been busy, busy, BUSY ! 🤯

Balancing all the aspects of our lives is not always easy, and we often feel we need to take a breather - although at the same time, there is no time ! 😤

But when we take a walk on our beautiful farm, it helps put into perspective and eventually find solutions and insights that will allow us to move forward 😌🌅

So today, I am leaving you with a few textures and natural scenes I photographed in the veld we so much care for. Maybe you can tell me what you think each picture represent ? 😇

We are swarmed by piglets and they are growing tall and big ! ☺️

I went to the training pen yesterday to check on the little guys, and they are in their sprouting phase 🐖 Piglets grow in stages : they grow in height, then they fill up, put on some weight and grow in width, and it continues like this until they reach their adult size.

These are Duroc x Landrace piglets, literally THE best mixed race to grow ! 😎 They are muscular and big like a Duroc, with a high-quality meat that is incomparable, and they grow fast and are friendly like a Landrace.

Definitely a win-win situation 🤩 So, if you are interested, these are for sale !

At The Walsingham Farm, we are working hard to balance farming, hunting and conservation on our 300 hectares 💪

Although we do not have an exhaustive list as of yet, there are many amazing species that reside on the farm, either common, rare, native or (unfortunately) invasive 😌

Please know that if you are a scientist, a conservationist or a naturalist expert, you are more than welcome to get in touch with us and come have a look for yourself ! 🤗

🚨 RARE SPECIES ALERT ! 🚨

A few months ago, I took a stroll in the beautiful natural landscapes of The Walsingham Farm and I snapped pictures of whatever I could find - insects, animals, birds, plants … I did not have my macro lens, so it's a blurry pic ...
And now that I am spending the time to identify every single species from the pictures, I had a great surprise ! 😎

Meet Lycus poultoni, a species of net-winged beetles found in coastal areas in southern Africa that is VERY rare - only 3 observations on iNaturalist ! 😱

I could not find a lot of information about this species, except a pretty detailed description of the male in a thesis written by Kitty Wanda Stamhuis in 1993 🤗

Here, you can see two pairs of antennae on the picture, so I suspect there is a beetle on another beetle 😂
