On 30 April, the NWGA wished our valued colleague, Samuel Nkomoyi, all the best on his retirement.

Samuel joined the NWGA in 2009 as a full-time hand shearing instructor. During his remarkable career, he proudly represented South Africa at the World Championships four times as a blade shearer.

His dedication, skill, and commitment to the industry have been an inspiration to us all. The NWGA had the privilege of presenting Samuel with a token of appreciation at the NWGA’s office in Bloemfontein, in recognition of his many years of service and dedication.

Thank you, Samuel, for the difference you have made. We wish you a happy, healthy, and well-deserved retirement!

* Juan Venter, Oos-Kaapse produksie-adviseur, het van 3 tot 6 Augustus saam met BKB verteenwooridgers, Piet Venter en Louis Hayward, ‘n Springbokkop-wolklaskursus vir graad 11 leerders by Marlow Landbouskool aangebied.
* David Botha, Noord-Kaapse produksie-adviseur, het by Grootfontein Landboukollege gaan draai waar eerste- en tweedejaar-studente, onderskeidelik, ‘n praktiese veehantersingskursus en skaapseleksie-kursus ontvang het.

Well-trained hands are one of the biggest assets on a wool sheep farm. They are imperative for animal welfare, good shearing practices, general safety, and ultimately, the price that your wool fetches at market.

The NWGA’s production advisors offer two accredited, free-of-charge courses to ANY wool producer in South Africa, including their farm managers, herd managers, and workers. The animal handling course includes:

· General animal handling
· Animal handling before, during, and after shearing
· Animal health.
· Lamb management.
· Handling facilities.
· Shearing shed management.
· Biosecurity.

The second accredited course available to wool producers is the breeding, reproduction and selection course.

Our training builds practical skills producers need for Sustainable Cape Wools Standard certification. Ensuring South African wool stay competitive in international markets by adhering to global standards.

Kruipvoer: Is die kool die sous werd?

Kruipvoer gee lammers toegang tot aparte, smaaklike voer waarby ooie nie kan uitkom nie. Dit dien as aanvulling vir dit wat lammers nie voor speen uit melk en weiding kan kry nie.

Indien dit reg toegepas word, is kruipvoer een van die eenvoudigste maniere om jou lammers ‘n goeie begin te bied.

Creep feed: Is it worth the trouble?

Creep feed gives lambs access to separate, palatable feed that ewes cannot get to. It provides the lambs with nutrition they cannot get from milk or grazing prior to weaning.

When implemented correctly, it is one of the simplest ways to give your lambs a good start in life.
