Did You Know? In 2005, Cabinet proclaimed 27 January as National Police Day. This year marks 21 years since Cabinet of the Republic of South Africa approved the special day as commemorated by members of the South African Police Service.

The day has been earmarked in remembrance of SAPS’ members who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty and also honor members and employees for their hard work and dedication in serving and protecting the inhabitants of the Republic and their properties.

This is a day for communities to stand with the Blue — and pray for them and their families.

We salute every member who is dedicated to his/her calling - protecting and serving their communities.

As we enjoy a leisurely Sunday afternoon, we'd like to take a moment to reflect on the success of our IPA Jacaranda Region Counter's first meeting of the year. We'd like to express our sincere appreciation to all who supported us in 2025. Your backing has enabled us to achieve our goals. Unfortunately, our cherished Johann Rissik Guesthouse is currently in intensive care, and we're striving to save this beloved institution. In the coming months, we'll be hosting two bowling events, a Braaivleis Competition, and a Fishing Day. Please remember to renew your membership and check our IPA South Africa website for updates.

Rus in Vrede Sarie van Niekerk —**RIP Sarie van Niekerk**.

"You have suffered so much in the last few years.

Sarie was a true pioneer: one of the first women in the South African Police (joined in 1972), rising to lieutenant, facing unique challenges as a female officer in that era, then transitioning to journalism (crime and court reporting, including at Beeld), and later becoming the editor of the **Female Nongqai Magazine** (or Nongqai Vroue), dedicated to preserving the histories and memories of women in the South African forces.

Her multi-part "Legacy Conversations – SAP Force" interviews on YouTube remain a valuable oral history resource, capturing her experiences—from training at the Police College, encounters like the Fox Street Siege, personal hardships, to her post-police career.

She leaves a lasting legacy in breaking barriers for women in law enforcement and documenting that history for future generations.

Condolences to her family, friends, former colleagues, and those who knew her through her work. If this is someone close to you my thoughts are with you during this time. If you'd like to share more or need help finding tributes/memorials, let me know.
