This is more than a cooking position. We are looking for a strong leader who can manage a commercial kitchen, inspire a team, maintain exceptional food quality and oversee all kitchen operations.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead and develop the kitchen team.
• Manage daily kitchen operations and production.
• Oversee stock control, ordering and food costing.
• Ensure outstanding food quality and presentation.
• Manage catering, conferences and special events.
• Maintain food safety and hygiene standards.
• Plan menus and improve operational efficiency.
• Be a hands-on leader who is willing to work alongside the team when required.

Minimum Requirements
• Minimum 5 years' experience in a senior kitchen management role.
• Professional Chef qualification (preferred).
• Strong leadership, organisational and communication skills.
• Experience in restaurant and catering operations.
• Knowledge of stock control, food costing and kitchen administration.
• South African citizen or legally authorised to work in South Africa.
• Valid driver's licence and reliable own transport.

A Piece of Art at Our Doorstep!

We at Pure Café UP are absolutely thrilled to share that one of Edoardo Villa’s iconic sculptures now stands proudly just outside our doors!
Born in Italy and later becoming one of South Africa’s most celebrated sculptors, Edoardo Villa (1915–2011) dedicated over six decades to transforming steel, bronze, and concrete into bold abstract forms that spoke of strength, balance, and movement. His work celebrates the human spirit — reimagined through geometry and rhythm — and can be found in galleries and public spaces around the world.

And now, unbelievably, one of these masterpieces lives right here — on our doorstep at the University of Pretoria!

Next time you visit Pure Café for your favourite coffee or lunch, take a moment to pause and admire this striking red sculpture — a daily reminder that art and inspiration are never far away.
