Weltevrede Estate has been home to the Jonker family since 1912. Four generations of farming the limestone-rich soils of Bonnievale in the Robertson Wine Valley. That’s not a coincidence. Limestone like this is rare in the Cape and it’s precisely what makes Weltevrede’s Chardonnays so singular.
Under fourth-generation winemaker Philip Jonker, who trained in Napa Valley and Bordeaux before coming home to Bonnievale, the estate has become one of South Africa’s most celebrated Chardonnay and Cap Classique producers. Tim Atkin MW, Chardonnay du Monde, Michelangelo and the Cap Classique Challenge have all taken notice.
