🫕✨ 2ND ANNUAL POTJIE CELEBRATION AT Kutlwanong School For The Deaf ✨🫕
This weekend, we returned to Kutlwanong School for the Deaf in North West for our 2nd Annual Celebration, honouring the birthday of our founder, Sir Nolo Mmeti — a day of nourishment, dignity, unity, and love.
🌍 About the School:
Kutlwanong is one of the few public schools in South Africa dedicated to deaf learners, offering Grades R to 12 and vocational training. The school has consistently advocated for accessible education, cultural expression, and empowerment for deaf youth. In 2025, they proudly represented the province at the National Deaf Games, showcasing excellence through silence.
🫕 The Potjie:
We served a rich, nutritious potjie made with impala meat and 8 seasonal vegetables — feeding over 220 students and staff. For many, this was a rare, high-protein meal supporting not just nourishment, but dignity and joy.
🌿💇🏽♀️ Supporting Partners:
• The Supreme Barber SA: Free professional haircuts & braiding for learners and staff + donation of board games for social learning.
• Fresh and Dried Herbs: Donated herbs and spices for the pot, and kickstarted the school’s Agri-Education Garden.
• Media Masters: Captured the event through photography & videography.
• The Access Group: Provided project management & sponsorship coordination.
📚 Why It Matters:
For deaf youth, inclusive celebrations like these promote visibility, food security, self-esteem, cultural participation, and skills exchange. Deaf learners in SA often face isolation, limited access to public programs, and health challenges. This initiative bridges those gaps — through action, unity, and flavor.
