Where it all began
Our success story begins in 1990 with a lady named Blanché Rust. Her parents lived in Nelspruit. And like many others before her, she moved to Joburg to seek gold. At first she thought she would find it working in a local bank, but that was just fool’s gold. She was looking for something more…
Her parents loved her and sent her provisions of nuts and dried fruit each week. Lots and lots of nuts and dried fruit. Far more than one person can consume in a week… luckily for Joburg. So in her spare time Blanché loaded up a shopping trolley and went around the suburbs selling dried fruit and nuts door to door. And then office to office… Her clientele got to know her and every time they saw her they would say, “look… the nut lady is coming” The name became synonymous with quality produce and friendly service.
Her business grew as the Nut Lady established her name firstly at semi-permanent venues like Bruma Fleamarket, Rosebank Rooftop Market, Irene Market and others.
