Yesterday South Africa celebrated Pinotage Day - and Pinotage has been part of the Orpheus & The Raven story from the start.

Our No.7 Pinotage puts this homegrown variety centre stage, while No.42 brings the family together: Pinot Noir + Cinsaut - the two varieties crossed by Prof AI Perold in 1925 - alongside Pinotage itself, born from that crossing.

And, for a limited time, No.42 is also taking the stage in true rocker style through a special collaboration with Francois van Coke - putting Pinotage in the spotlight as protagonist and rock star.

From its first commercial release in 1961 to 30 editions of the Absa Top 10 Pinotage competition, South Africa’s own grape has come a very long way.

It’s worth it, as this event was the culmination of something that has been two years in the making.
We finally launched the limited-release Orpheus & The Raven 42 × Francois van Coke, complete with its gloriously crazy packaging - and it’s already flying out the door!

Such a thrill sharing the stage with Francois and collaborating on a w**e that has become a bit of a five-star rockstar in its own right.

The w**e remains our 42 blend but the familiar world on the label makes way for a new protagonist: an astronaut, drawn from Francois’s Die Ruimte (universe).
