This year, we’re celebrating a big milestone by looking back and uncovering some of the untold stories behind the Cap Classique that started it all.

In the first chapter of this four-part series, Johan Malan reflects on his father Frans Malan’s curious nature and the courage to try something new – never imagining what Kaapse Vonkel would one day become, or how that pioneering spirit would help shape the future of Cap Classique in South Africa.

If Johan could share a glass with his father today, he says he’d raise it and tell him: “Dad, you would be proud.”
