One region. Two estates.

This winter, Waterford Estate is welcoming Remhoogte Wine Estate for an intimate Masterclass Experience exploring the remarkable diversity of Stellenbosch through the lens of two producers situated on opposite ends of this celebrated wine region.

Hosted by the makers and growers themselves, this comparative tasting journey will uncover how terroir, climate, soil, philosophy, and winemaking decisions shape distinctly different expressions of Stellenbosch wines.

The evening includes a three-course dinner, thoughtfully designed to complement the experience while allowing the wines and stories to remain the focus.

- 26 June 2026
- Masterclass Tasting & Three-Course Dinner
- Limited to 30 guests
- R1600 per person

The mesmerising turn of the pump over sprayer, a gentle yet effective means of extracting colour, structure and tannin from our grape skins.
Our cellar is a trove of interesting winemaking techniques and equipment, and for you to see it, all you have to do is ask one of our tasting room ambassadors for a tour through the cellar.

Harvest season always brings about an air of excitement in the Winelands, but the 2026 harvest at Waterford Estate started with sadness.

A long-standing member of our team, Denzel Klaasen, passed away right before the picking season began, and his enthusiastic energy was greatly missed. Hardworking, humble, filled with laughter and charisma that could bring light to even the toughest harvests. He played a vital role within our team, offering leadership, humour, and unwavering dedication for eight years at Waterford Estate.

In memory of Denzel and his impact on the team, Waterford Estate has dedicated the 2026 harvest to him. A small gesture to honour a man who gave so much to our team.

Regenerative agriculture is a fascinating field, one that is ever-growing in harmony with nature.

Our Dexter cattle are just the surface of our work to bring nature into our vineyards, using a high-density, or speed-grazing technique to move them between blocks, ensuring only half of the cover crop material is grazed. Grazing only half of the cover crop allows these plants to seed and regrow between the rows, leading to a perpetual stream of healthy indigenous plant life within our vineyards.

The Jem.

A wine steeped in history and crafted with nature. The culmination of our pursuit of harmony, a wine that showcases the character of each vintage in a complete expression blended from eight varietals.

Meticulously assembled and patiently matured, The Jem is not defined by any one element, but by the balance achieved between them. Structure, texture, and depth are layered with precision, resulting in a wine that evolves in the glass and over time.

At its core, The Jem represents the art of blending, a reflection of our estate and the people who work to produce a wine of this stature.

The Waterford Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is a wine that speaks with clarity and quiet confidence. Sourced from select vineyard sites across the estate, each component is chosen for the structure, depth, and character it brings to the final blend.

Guided by a philosophy of balance and restraint, the wine is crafted to reflect both the precision of the cellar and the individuality of the vineyards. Time in oak is carefully managed to support the fruit, allowing layers of dark berries, fine tannin, and subtle complexity to evolve with elegance.

This is a Cabernet Sauvignon defined not by power alone, but by its harmony. A true expression of Waterford Estate’s commitment to producing wines of structure, detail, and enduring refinement.

At Waterford Estate, our approach to farming is rooted in balance, and our herd of Dexter cattle plays an integral role in maintaining it. As a smaller, heritage breed, they are well-suited to moving gently between our vineyards, grazing in a way that supports rather than strips the natural environment.

Their presence contributes to soil health through natural fertilisation, helping to build organic matter and encourage microbial life beneath the surface. This, in turn, strengthens the vineyards, creating a more resilient and expressive growing environment.

More than just part of the landscape, the Dexter cattle are a reflection of Waterford Estate’s commitment to working with nature, a reminder that great wine begins long before the cellar, in the careful stewardship of the land itself.

At Waterford Estate, every wine is shaped by the hands and minds that guide it. From vineyard to cellar, our team brings a considered approach to every decision, balancing intuition with experience, and precision with patience.

Time in the cellar is not rushed. It is observed, tasted, and understood. Each barrel tells a story as it evolves, with careful attention given to how the wine expresses both vintage and place. This process is led by a shared philosophy: to allow the vineyard to speak, while gently guiding the wine toward balance and refinement.

Behind every bottle is a collective effort, a team dedicated to craftsmanship, detail, and the quiet pursuit of excellence that defines Waterford Estate.

The architecture of Waterford Estate is a reflection of the philosophy that guides everything we do. Inspired by Tuscan design, the estate was built using Table Mountain sandstone uncovered on the property during the early preparation of the vineyards. This connection between land and structure grounds the estate firmly in its environment, both physically and symbolically.

It represents a deliberate merging of worlds, the heritage and time-honoured practices of the Old World, brought into conversation with the innovation and energy of South Africa’s New World of wine. At Waterford Estate, we honour the principles that have shaped winemaking for generations, while continuously exploring how they evolve within the South African landscape.

The result is a space that is not only built from the land but also built on the idea of learning from the past to better understand the future of South African wine.

We are incredibly proud and excited to see our Head of Marketing, Jeremy Maarschalk, take the stage at this year’s Wine Tourism Conference.

Starting his journey as a waiter in our Tasting Room, Jeremy has worked his way through the ranks at Waterford Estate, and we couldn’t be prouder to see him sharing his insight and experience on stage.

In his session, Jeremy will unpack how wine tourism brands can intentionally design experiences that create desire, build differentiation, and strengthen long-term brand equity.

Grounded in real-world application, the session moves beyond theory to provide practical frameworks and tools that can be applied across hospitality, storytelling, and guest engagement.
