Hannes is watching the weather and the vines.
Spring might look like an easy time in the vineyards, but for vineyard manager Hannes, it means watching closely.

High humidity, combined with sudden changes from cool and dry to warm and humid conditions, has brought an increased risk of mildew this season.

Hannes and the vineyard team are monitoring the vines carefully and managing pest and disease pressure as the new growth develops.

It's one of the less visible parts of growing grapes and one of the many decisions being made long before another Neethlingshof vintage reaches the cellar.

Our Short Story Collection Owl Post Pinotage 2024 and Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2024 have both earned Gold at the Veritas Awards, recognition of two distinctive expressions of our Stellenbosch vineyards.

These awards honour the expertise of our viticulturist and w**emaking team, whose understanding of our vineyards and thoughtful work in the cellar bring each w**e’s character to life.

Cabernet Franc is a variety with a character all its own and often plays only a supporting role in Bordeaux-styled blends. Prized for its aromatic elegance, fresh red fruit, subtle herbal notes and fine structure, it can add a new dimension to a blend.

In our new Estate Prelum 2024, Cabernet Franc takes centre stage, making up 40% of the blend. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon each contribute 22.5%, with Petit Verdot and Malbec completing the composition.

The result is a w**e of depth and finesse, where ripe cherry and blackcurrant meet darker plum, cedar and a gentle herbal lift. Velvety tannins and a long, layered finish bring it all together.

Prelum, we have shared the story behind the name. Now we take a closer look at the w**e itself.

Estate Prelum 2024 is a five-variety Bordeaux-style blend led by Cabernet Franc at 40%, with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon at 22.5% each, followed by smaller components of Petit Verdot and Malbec. This composition is worth noting as the Cabernet Franc sits at the heart of Prelum, giving the blend a distinctive difference within the Neethlingshof Estate range.

In the glass, ripe cherry and blackcurrant meet darker plum and cedar, with a gentle herbal lift. The palate is plush yet poised, with velvety tannins, savoury depth and a long, layered finish.
