Our wildlife sanctuary is as much a part of the w**e farm's character as the Cap Classique we are known for. And at this year's Fizzy Fest, we're bringing these two distinctive sides of Villiera together.

On 14 November, shorter game drives through the sanctuary will offer festivalgoers an opportunity to explore the landscape and wildlife beyond the vineyards. These shorter excursions will give visitors a glimpse of the sanctuary, with opportunities to hop aboard when the safari vehicles are available.

And with Safari Chic setting the theme for this year's festivities, a little adventure feels entirely appropriate.

From the sanctuary's quieter surroundings to an afternoon of Cap Classique, music and food trucks, Fizzy Fest promises a wonderful contrast of experiences, all in one setting.

In the Western Cape, winter rainfall plays an important role in replenishing the water resources that farms depend on through the warmer months.

With lower rainfall this past winter, the importance of using and managing water responsibly is particularly apparent.

At Villiera, water harvesting forms part of our ongoing approach to sustainability, helping us make better use of a resource that can never be taken for granted.

Spring brings a few smaller characters into the spotlight at Villiera's wildlife sanctuary, including our chameleons.

As cold-blooded creatures, chameleons rely on warmth from their surroundings to regulate their body temperature. With warmer days and more daylight, they become more active, making spring a particularly interesting time to keep an eye out for them.

They are easy to overlook, of course. Blending into their surroundings is something chameleons do rather well.

On your next game drive at Villiera, remember to look beyond the larger animals. Our experienced guides have a keen eye for the sanctuary's smaller inhabitants and are always happy to point out the fascinating creatures you might otherwise miss.

Old bush vines play a part in our summer Cellar Selection Sauvignon Blanc.
A portion of this w**e comes from Villiera’s old bush-vine vineyard, adding freshness and vibrancy to its passion fruit and subtle guava notes.

With still w**e, the cellar team works towards the finished w**e. With Cap Classique, what looks like a finished w**e is really only halfway there. Once the base w**e is made, another transformation remains.

A second fermentation in the bottle. Time on the lees. Riddling. Disgorgement. And, importantly, waiting. It means making Cap Classique requires you to think years rather than months ahead. Decisions made in the cellar today may only reveal their full result much later.
