Annandale Wine Estate

Annandale Wine Estate Home of Annandale Wines, the oldest winery in the Helderberg valley, Stellenbosch. It was only in 1996 that it once again transformed it back to a wine farm.

Annandale is the oldest farm in the Helderberg Valley, and proudly upholds a long tradition of wine-making. The cellar built before the 1700s can still be found on the estate as well as the manor house. For a long period in the early 20th century it had 50 000 vines and part of the land became a haven for abandoned horses and a riding school. Today, Willem and Louanne Briedenhann, 6th generation w

inemarkers continue to grow the legacy of family winemaking. UK buyers can order from:

The lesson here? Enjoy the little things šŸ™

The moments that make you laugh. Time with friends and family. Being outside. Good company. A chicken under your arm. A good glass of wine in your hand (preferably Annandale, of course)!

Life doesn’t always need to be complicated.

Ps. while you’re at it, why not stock up on your favourite Annandale wines? If they can make Willem this happy, imagine what they could do for you 😊

A glimpse at what’s coming from the Annandale cellar šŸ‘€

Willem Briedenhann has been tasting and assessing two of our upcoming whites. The next vintage of Annandale Chardonnay and our highly anticipated maiden Sauvignon Blanc!

And yes, that difference in colour is very real.

The Chardonnay shows a noticeably deeper golden colour, influenced by its winemaking and time in barrel, which allows the wine to develop greater colour, texture and richness. The Sauvignon Blanc, by contrast, is much paler, reflecting a fresher style where preserving brightness, acidity and those vibrant Sauvignon Blanc characteristics is the focus šŸ’«

Two very different wines, tasted side by side, and both showing plenty of promise.

We already know many of you are waiting for the Sauvignon Blanc, but judging by what’s in the glass, don’t overlook the upcoming Chardonnay either!

Mondays are back at Annandale!

With the new season around the corner, the farm is once again open from Monday to Saturday, 08:00–17:00 šŸ™Œ

The Annandale tasting room is ready to pour, FamiliƩr Farm Grocer is stocked and the farm is looking particularly good as we head into spring.

Pop in for a tasting, fill the basket at FamiliĆ©r, take a wander around the farm or simply settle in and enjoy a little time out in the Winelands šŸ·šŸš¶

We’re looking forward to seeing plenty of familiar faces, and hopefully a few new ones too!

A special bit of recognition for chef Drikus Brink and the team at Toevlug, who were recently named one of Neighbourhood Gems for 2026!

The new Eat Out initiative, presented in partnership with WOOLWORTHS SA, celebrates the places that chefs and food-industry professionals genuinely enjoy eating at themselves…the local favourites and hidden gems that deserve to be discovered šŸ‘€

It feels particularly fitting for Toevlug. Tucked away here on the Annandale farm, it has quietly become another reason to visit. Good food, proper farm surroundings and its own character entirely!

Congratulations to Drikus and the whole Toevlug team. Another little gem adding to the intrigue of Annandale šŸ‘

There’s plenty of excitement at Annandale at the moment. Our maiden Sauvignon Blanc is getting closer to release, while Willem has also been hard at work putting together the new vintage of our Cavalier blend šŸ‘€

But quietly developing in barrel is another wine we’re particularly excited about…the upcoming Annandale Chardonnay!

Willem has been tasting through barrel samples, and it’s already showing beautifully. Ripe citrus and yellow apple lead the way, with hints of stone fruit, gentle spice and a subtle creamy, nutty character beginning to develop from its time in barrel. There’s plenty of richness, but also the freshness and structure to keep everything in check.

Still some time to go before it’s released, but judging by these samples, Chardonnay lovers have something very good to look forward to šŸ’«

Wine tastes better on the farm šŸ·

At Annandale, you can settle in with a glass, take in the vineyards and mountain views, and watch the chickens wander past while the day carries on around you.

It’s peaceful, relaxed and very much a working farm…exactly the kind of setting we think wine should be enjoyed in.

Come experience Annandale for yourself! You’ll instantly fall in love 🄰

Willem is excited it’s Friday!

However, when you’re the boss and you’re constantly up and down the whole day, sometimes you need a quite and cosy place to gather your thoughts (with a glass of Annandale Cabernet Sauvignon in hand, of course) šŸ·

ICYMI, our Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 recently picked up Gold, adding another accolade to a wine that has long been a firm favourite at the farm.

With the weekend around the corner, perhaps it’s time to come and enjoy a glass for yourself. Fire is going, wine is drinking incredibly well!

ICYMI šŸ‘€

A great result for our Cabernet wines at the 2025 International Wine Challenge.

Our Hempies du Toit Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 was awarded Double Gold, while the Annandale Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 received a Gold Medal.

Two Cabernets from the same vintage, and two fantastic results for wines that are very much at the heart of what we do at Annandale.

We’ll happily raise a glass to that!

Cheers šŸ·

You guessed correctly!

Annandale Chardonnay.

Rich and full, with citrus, vanilla and orange marmalade coming through on the palate. There’s good freshness behind the weight of the wine, with a clean finish and plenty of flavour šŸ’«

A Chardonnay with a bit of body to it, and a great bottle to have on the table as we head into the weekend.

Willem and Tjopper were inspecting the pruning earlier this morning šŸ‡šŸ•

One of the sure signs that winter has arrived at Annandale is seeing the team out in the Merlot vineyards with their secateurs.

Pruning isn’t the most glamorous job on the farm, but it’s one of the most important. It’s our chance to decide how the vine will grow next season, helping it put its energy into producing fewer, better bunches of grapes rather than chasing unnecessary growth.

It’s slow, hands-on work that takes patience, but it’s all part of laying the foundation for the next vintage.

One season ends, another quietly begins…and we’re feeling optimistic!
