(1951)

Tokara winery is situated on the crest of the Helshoogte Pass, about 5km from the historic winemaking town of Stellenbosch. Apart from award winning architecture, the estate offers magnificent vistas of the Simonsberg Mountains, False Bay, Table Mountain and the lush Idas Valley. The winery building’s industrial nature is softened by uncomplicated architecture and design. A composition of simple,

natural materials and clean, strong lines characterize the structure, offering clarity of form within a breathtaking environment. The wine production and marketing facility was designed to reflect the character of the wines themselves – innovative and distinctive. The winery’s operational layout incorporates cutting-edge technologies and computerised control systems to ensure all TOKARA wines meet the necessary standards of excellence.

Tokara is on the cover of today’s Die Burger Landbou, with a feature inside by renowned w**e writer Emile Joubert, following his attendance at our recent TELOS Vertical Tasting.

Emile shares his reflections on the evening and on TELOS - a Cabernet Sauvignon created by the Ferreira family, with five vintages tasted side by side, revealing the evolution and character of this remarkable w**e over time.

For our Afrikaans-speaking followers, this is a must-read - and a lovely feature for anyone interested in w**e, the Stellenbosch landscape and the stories behind the w**es we make.

Thank you to Emile Joubert and Die Burger Landbou for capturing the evening so beautifully.

Read the full feature in today’s Die Burger Landbou.

Meet the artist: Michael Beckurts

There’s something wonderfully immediate about Michael Beckurts’ work. A regular at live music performances around Cape Town, Michael draws musicians and audiences as the music unfolds around him, capturing the energy of the moment in real time.

For Compositions (and all that jazz), curated by Julia Meintjes Fine Art, Michael brings a glimpse of the connection between performer, audience and music.

His work feels particularly at home in this exhibition, where art and music come together in different ways.

The exhibition is housed in the entrance to our w**ery building, alongside the Tasting Lounge and Tokara Restaurant. So if you’re visiting us for a tasting or a meal, take a little time to wander through the gallery too.

Compositions (and all that jazz) is currently on view at Tokara.

**eListWednesday

This week, we’re heading to the KwaZulu-Natal coast, where our Reserve Chardonnay features on the w**e list at Butcher and W**e in Salt Rock.

Grown on our home farm in Stellenbosch, at the foothills of the Simonsberg, our Reserve Chardonnay brings generous texture, bright freshness and a subtle richness to the table. It’s the kind of w**e that settles comfortably alongside good food - whether paired with something from the grill, fresh seafood or a beautifully prepared dish with a little more richness.

A taste of Stellenbosch, enjoyed at the table at Butcher & W**e.

It was wonderful to see TELOS feature in Michael Fridjhon’s reflections on the alchemy of w**e blending, following our recent TELOS Vertical Tasting.

Five vintages of TELOS, tasted side by side and plenty of conversation around what makes each one unique - while exploring the role of blending in creating a w**e that is greater than the individual components.

Thank you, Michael, for joining us and for sharing your thoughts. An insightful read. 🍷

**eListWednesday - an evening with Tokara at The Wes Bistro & Bar

We’ve featured The Wes before for having our Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc on their w**e list. This time, there’s another reason to put them in the spotlight.

On 18 September, Tokara takes the stage: an evening pairing our w**es with a fabulous three-course dinner.

Our w**emaker, Stuart Botha, will be there to take guests through the w**es and share some of the stories behind them.

R795 pp | 18 September | 55 Shortmarket Street, Cape Town

Bookings via Dineplan or [email protected]

A great opportunity to enjoy Tokara w**es in a completely different setting - and spend an evening with the person who makes them.

Our 2019 Blanc de Blancs will be released soon - a vintage Cap Classique made for long afternoons outdoors, good company and celebrating the moments that mark a new season.

Cabernet is at the heart of Tokara.

Throughout August we’ve shared the stories behind our five Cabernets - each with its own character, shaped by its vineyard, its vintage and the decisions made along the way.

But today, on , we come back to where it all begins.

The vineyards on the Simonsberg. The granite and sandstone beneath the vines. The changing seasons, the mountain air and the hands that tend to the fruit.

This is our home. And this is where our Cabernet begins.

Happy Cabernet Day from Tokara. 🍷

The final Cabernet in our Cabernet Month series.

Before we raise a glass to on Sunday, Stuart Botha takes us inside the story of Telos - our ultimate expression of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Born from a single vineyard block on the Simonsberg, Telos is about selecting only the very best fruit and allowing the character of the site and vintage to speak.

A w**e made in tiny quantities, and one that represents the culmination of everything we’ve learned about Cabernet at Tokara.

This is Telos.

A little surprise from a friend travelling through Italy: a bottle of Tokara Director’s Reserve White spotted on the w**e list at Moscatello & Muliner - Design Agri Relais, in the Morenic Hills, just a breath away from Lake Garda.

It’s always a special feeling to discover Tokara on a w**e list far from home - and even better when someone sends us a photo to say, “Ciao!”

Here’s to good w**e finding its way around the world. 🌍

Cabernet, shaped by the Simonsberg.

In this chapter of our Cabernet series, Stuart Botha takes us into the specific parcels behind the Tokara Simonsberg Cabernet Sauvignon.

With a higher proportion of granite gravel, these vines naturally produce smaller berries and more concentrated fruit - resulting in a w**e that balances power with elegance.

It’s a pure expression of Cabernet Sauvignon and a reflection of the Simonsberg terroir, made in limited quantities.

Discover the story behind the w**e in our latest reel.
