Strauss & Co unearths rare Single Cask Brandies in a new and exclusive Cape Fine Brandy Auction
We are proud to announce the Strauss & Co Cape Fine Brandy Auction closing 18 November 2024. The online-timed sale features a definitive collection of the most rare and exceptional, aged Cape Fine Brandies, from the depths of South Africa’s greatest distillers.
Bespoke casks of Cape Fine Brandy, some 2 decades and older, have been bottled specifically for Strauss & Co with each cask containing as little as 300 bottles. Fine spirits have shown huge growth in the global environment, led by single cask Whisky, and we see the same opportunity for Cape Fine Brandy.
Bespoke casks from Boplaas, Kaapzicht, KWV, Joseph Barry, Sydney Back and Van Ryn’s will be auctioned in varying lot sizes to appeal to both trade and private bidders.

Van Ryn's Strauss & Co 14 Year Old PX Cask Finish
The concept of a cask finish first took shape over seven years ago. While whisky had already embraced the practice of cask finishes, brandy was relatively new to the concept. We embarked on a journey of experimentation with different casks to witness the evolution of our brandy over time.
After spending several months in a PX cask, it became clear that we had found the perfect match. The cask infused the brandy with captivating flavours of orange peel, nuts, and a luscious raisin-like sweetness that harmonized flawlessly with the 14-year-old brandy. Despite its relatively young age of 14 years, the brandy exudes a rich, deep golden hue, owing to the influence of the Pedro Ximénex sherry cask.
When tasked with creating something truly unique, my mind immediately turned to the extraordinary cask of brandy resting in our maturation store, patiently awaiting the ideal moment and opportunity to be bottled. I was determined to preserve the authentic essence of this brandy, which led us to refrain from chill filtering it, thereby safeguarding the remarkable flavors that had developed over time.
This exceptional brandy is meticulously crafted to honor and elevate the most cherished moments in life, wherever and whenever they may occur.
'Van Ryn's 14-year-old pot still brandy, finished in Pedro Ximenez casks, boasts a captivating golden amber colour. Its aroma beckons with alluring notes of red berries, orange peel, and raisins, complemented by hints of vanilla and salted caramel. On the palate, one encounters delicate floral notes, sweet sherry, and a touch of smokiness. The intricate flavours on the nose and palate culminate in a lasting, exquisite aftertaste.'
