Christian Dauriac has been making wine in Bordeaux for 30 years, first at Chateau Destieux (which he recently brought to Grand Cru Classé status) then Montlisse, his second wine (both in Saint-Emilion) and finally in Pomerol with La Clémence. When he visited South Africa in 2002 he fell in love with Stellenbosch, and after careful review of many sites he selected a 36-hectare estate with exception

al terroir in the Simonsberg area of Stellenbosch. He named the farm Marianne Estate. Marianne Estate produces small batches of very high quality wines, with strictly manual harvesting and sorting, the very latest winemaking equipment and new French oak barrels. Christian regularly brings in specialists from France to oversee the winemaking, including world-renowned winemaker Michel Rolland.

Floreal was the eighth month of the French Revolutionary Calendar, derived from the French word fleur (flower). It represents the time of flowering and the peak of beauty in the vineyard.

Floreal is our flagship wine, a true icon representing the marriage of French elegance and South African soul. This is the wine that put Marianne on the global map, notably chosen by legendary Chef Gordon Ramsay for Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday celebration at Buckingham Palace. It is a masterpiece of balance and longevity.

Floreal is a classic Bordeaux-style blend, crafted to showcase the best of the Simonsberg terroir through a French lens:

Why « Désirade »? 🇫🇷

Inspired by the French word Désir (Desire), Désirade evokes the « Desired Land. » It is a tribute to the explorers who, after a long journey at sea, finally spotted land on the horizon. In our vineyard, it represents the patience required to reach the perfect moment of maturity in our grapes.

Désirade is our signature Bordeaux blend, born from our French roots and our savoir-faire on the river banks of the Gironde.
