Some things just work — so why change them? 🍷

This classic Ferrari pump was bought brand new in 1968 by David’s grandfather and is still used today for Merlot pump-overs during fermentation at Overgaauw.

Nearly six decades later, it remains part of the process on the estate; proof that craftsmanship, tradition and quality never go out of style. 🍇🍷

History and tradition you can taste 🍷

Every glass you pour tells a story of over a century of winemaking, shaped by family, care and consistency.

At Overgaauw, that story began in 1905 with Abraham van Velden and continues in the same family today.

When you enjoy their Merlot, you are tasting a true South African milestone. After replanting virus-free Italian clones in 1979, the first vintage followed in 1982. By 1983, Overgaauw released the country’s first single-varietal Merlot.

Today, that same dedication lives on in every bottle you open.

Just a few years earlier, Abraham van Velden founded the farm and built this cellar, laying the foundation for a philosophy that still guides the estate today: respect the land, understand the vineyards, and allow patience to shape the wine.
