Such an incredible privilege to be able to spend time with my brahmans and to see them enjoy the beautiful season that our Father has provided.

Tarka Brahman was started in 1980 in partnership with Mr Eric Bilse of Bilse and Sisal Brahmans. Mr Bilse, a renowned pioneer Brahman breeder, established his herd in the late 1950’s with brahman bulls and females from the USA, which he imported from Howard Parker’s V8 ranch, JD Hudgins Inc, of Hungarford, Texas and Mr Mayronne from louisiana. In 1983, the Mc Ewan and Porter families took control of Tarka Brahmans, after the Bilse shares in the partnership were bought. Four years later, the herd was split and the Staal family, of Bos Blanco stud, near Kroonstad, bought Mr MC Ewan’s hald of the herd. Since then, Tarka Brahmans has been run and managed by Wayne and Tracey Porter of Notcliffe Park, Tarkastad, who have used only pure grey American brahmans in their breeding programme.

Distance and the high rise in fuel costs, have made it very difficult to show as all the main shows are far away from their farm. However, a plan is made to attend the bigger shows and sales. Tarka Brahmans, sold their bulls and females with Bos Blanco, as well as a bull sale in Tarkastad, the Best of Both. However, we now only sell off the farm. We do however, sell at the annual “Sale of the Roses” and the National Sale in Parys. We have found this cost effective for the buyer and the seller, and the bulls come off the veld, with minimal feeding, ready to go and work in their new herds.

If you have any queries about pedigrees, sale animals, or even questions about Brahmans, I am always available to answer your questions and advise you accordingly.
