We look forward to welcoming you to our farm to enjoy our wines, our art, and the beauty of Tulbagh. Not for persons under the age of 18.

You never quite know what youโ€™ll find around the corner at Saronsberg.

Spring has brought us back outdoors, and itโ€™s one of our favourite times to explore the art beyond the walls of our gallery.

Throughout our gardens, sculptures and artworks are tucked between the trees and open spaces, turning a walk around the estate into an opportunity to discover something unexpected.

One of them is this striking bronze goat by South African sculptor Ruhan Janse van Vuuren, carrying a curious procession of figurative, trophy-like forms across its back. Goats appear repeatedly in Janse van Vuurenโ€™s work, where he plays with ideas of value, status and the objects we use to represent achievement.

So, after your next wine tasting, take your glass outside and give yourself a little time to explore. You might come for the Shiraz and find yourself stopping for the art.

Spring is here, and the gardens are ready to be explored.

Spring has found its way back to Saronsberg.

For those who love wine, this change of season means a little more than warmer days and green returning to the farm.

Spring marks the beginning of a new growing season in our vineyards. Buds begin to break, new shoots appear and the vines start the journey that will eventually lead to another harvest, and another vintage in your glass for you to enjoy.

It also happens to be a beautiful time to experience our estate for yourself. Warmer afternoons mean tastings can spill outdoors again, the gardens are coming back to life, and thereโ€™s plenty to explore with a glass of wine in hand.

So, as we raise a glass to the first signs of another vintage, we hope youโ€™ll find your own reason to return to Saronsberg too.

Thereโ€™s only one thing left to do after seven days... Taste it๐Ÿท

This week, weโ€™ve followed Saronsberg Shiraz and Provenance Shiraz from their vineyards across the farm, into the cellar, through barrel maturation and into the bottles you recognise today.

Along the way, youโ€™ve met some of the people behind them and discovered how two Shiraz wines from the same estate can develop such individual identities. But this is where all of that work is ultimately meant to lead, to a bottle being opened, a glass being poured and you sitting down to enjoy it.

Thank you for joining us for Shiraz Week and following the journey behind two wines that mean so much to Saronsberg.

Now thereโ€™s only one thing left to do, come and taste them for yourself.

Weโ€™ll see you in the tasting room. ๐Ÿท

For Day 6 of Shiraz Week, Christiaan looks back at how Provenance Shiraz has evolved over the years - not only in the bottle, but on it.

The word provenance has particular meaning in the art world. It is the history of a work: where it came from and the story it carries with it. It is a fitting name for a wine whose own identity has developed alongside the art of Saronsberg.

Our earliest Provenance labels featured a painting by South African artist Paul du Toit. Then, in 2013, the label changed to feature Angus Taylorโ€™s sculpture โ€œUit klip, uit waterโ€, the figure standing at the waterโ€™s edge outside our cellar that many now know as Lady at the Water.

The labels have changed and the packaging has been refined, but one thing has remained consistent: Provenance is made with the same care and attention we bring to Saronsberg Shiraz.

It has its own style, its own character and, over time, an identity that is distinctly its own.

Line the bottles up together and you are looking at more than changing labels. You are looking at the provenance of Provenance itself๐Ÿท

Day 5 of Shiraz Week: Provenance Shiraz ๐Ÿท

Provenance Shiraz and Saronsberg Shiraz are made differently because the fruit calls for a different approach. What does not change is the care and attention given to both.

That starts in the vineyard. Provenance comes from younger vineyards on the Welgegund slopes, where the soils and vines give us fruit with a different profile to work with. Rather than trying to push that fruit towards more weight or structure, we follow what it gives us naturally.

In the cellar, that means a gentler approach to oak and maturation, producing a more elegant style of Shiraz while still carrying the character of Shiraz grown here at Saronsberg.

It is also a wine known for its consistency. That dependability, vintage after vintage, is one of the reasons Provenance has become such a favourite among South African wine drinkers.

In the glass, you will find red and black fruit, floral notes and touches of fynbos, with soft tannins and a smooth finish.

Different in style, but never in the standard behind it๐Ÿท

Great wine is not the result of one big decision. It is the result of getting hundreds of smaller ones right, consistently๐Ÿท

For Day 4 of Shiraz Week, Christiaan talks about something that sits at the heart of our Saronsberg Shiraz: consistency.

From the work Roux and the vineyard team do each season, to the decisions made in the cellar and the way the wine is tasted and assessed during maturation, every stage is approached with the same intention - to keep improving what eventually reaches your glass.

That does not mean making exactly the same wine every vintage. Each year brings something different. For Christiaan, the aim is that the quality remains consistent and the character remains recognisably Saronsberg.

In our 2022 Shiraz, that character comes through in ripe dark and red fruit, violets and spice, with integrated oak, fine tannins and a layered fruit finish.

Different vintage. Same commitment to getting it right.

Tomorrow, we turn to another expression of Shiraz at Saronsberg: Provenance Shiraz ๐Ÿท

What really happens to a wine while itโ€™s in barrel? ๐Ÿท

Our Shiraz story has travelled from Roux in the vineyards to Daniela in the cellar. For Day 3, Monique takes us into the barrel cellar, where the next part of the wineโ€™s character develops.

Once our Saronsberg Shiraz and Provenance Shiraz enter barrel, the work does not simply stop while we wait for time to pass. The choice of barrel, the length of maturation and the way each wine develops during that time all play a part in what will eventually reach your glass.

Throughout maturation, the team taste, monitor and assess the wines. After around 10 months, the wines are tasted barrel by barrel, with each one assessed individually to determine whether it is better suited to our Saronsberg Shiraz or Provenance Shiraz.

From there, the wines return to barrel to continue maturing, with each one now moving closer to the style of Shiraz it will eventually become.

Join us tomorrow as Christiaan tells us more about our Saronsberg Shiraz wines and what sets them apart. ๐Ÿท

What happens when our Shiraz leaves the vineyard and reaches Daniela in the cellar? ๐Ÿ‡ โžก๏ธ ๐Ÿท

Yesterday, Roux showed us how the differences between our Saronsberg Shiraz and Provenance Shiraz begin in different parts of the farm.

Today, our winemaker Daniela takes over.

Once the grapes arrive at the cellar, they are chilled, carefully sorted and moved into the tanks, where the winemaking process begins.

And this is where the two Shirazes start to be handled a little differently.

One of those differences is the amount of juice removed from the tank. For Saronsberg Shiraz, slightly more is taken out, increasing the ratio of skins to juice and helping to build greater concentration, colour and structure.

It is one of several decisions Daniela and the cellar team make as they work with the fruit in front of them.

So although Saronsberg Shiraz and Provenance Shiraz are both 100% Shiraz, grown on the same estate, the differences between them continue well beyond the vineyard.

Tomorrow, we join Monique in the barrel cellar to look at the next stage: maturation. ๐Ÿท

22/08/2026

How early does a Shiraz begin to develop its own identity? ๐Ÿ‡

For Day 1 of Shiraz Week, weโ€™re heading into the vineyards with Roux to find out.

Both our Saronsberg Shiraz and Provenance Shiraz are 100% Shiraz, grown here on the estate. The difference begins with where on the farm that fruit comes from.

The Shiraz for our Saronsberg range comes from the lower parts of the farm on the Waveren side, while Provenance Shiraz comes from the Welgegund vineyards growing against the slopes of the Saronsberg Mountain.

Same variety. Different ground. Different character.

As Roux explains, those sites give us fruit with different qualities, and that plays an important part in deciding where each parcel of Shiraz will ultimately go.

So the distinction between Provenance Shiraz and Saronsberg Shiraz begins well before the cellar. Their individual identities are already developing while the grapes are still on the vine.

And this is only the beginning.

Tomorrow, we follow the Shiraz into the next part of itโ€™s journey ๐Ÿท
