This is a recipe we shared this morning with Radio Khwezi
Soft Bread Recipe
Ingredients:
- 625ml Flour
- 60ml Sugar
- 7g Instant yeast
- 1.25ml Salt
- 125ml Milk
- 125ml Unsalted butter, melted and cooled
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
Method
1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt. Mix well for everything to combine.
2. In a separate bowl, warm the milk in the microwave or on the stove until it is warm.
3. Add the melted butter and lightly beaten egg to the warm milk and Mix well.
4. Pour the milk mixture into the dry ingredients. Using a wooden spoon or your hands, mix until a soft dough forms.
5. Place the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.
6. Shape the dough into a ball and place it back into the mixing bowl. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1hours 30 minutes or until it has doubled in size.
7. After the dough has risen, punch it down to release any trapped air. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface.
9. Place the shaped dough onto a greased baking sheet or into a greased loaf pan,
10. Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise for about 30-45 minutes, or until it has puffed up.
11. Preheat your oven to 180°C during the last 10 minutes of the rising time.
12. Once the dough has risen again, gently brush the tops with milk to give it a nice golden color.
13. Bake the milk bread in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes.
14. Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before serving.
