β¨ Meet Sunel van der Merwe β A True Asset to The Arab Horse Society of South Africa ππΏπ¦
Her roots in agriculture run deep. Growing up on a cattle farm between Warrenton and Christiana in the Northern Cape, Sunel developed a lifelong passion for animals and nature. Some of her happiest moments are spent riding through the cattle camps or assisting during calving and lambing season. As she puts it: βIt is so rewarding to work alongside Godβs creation.β
After matriculating at Northern Cape Agricultural High School in Jan Kempdorp, she went on to complete her B.Agric Honours degree in Animal Production and Management at the University of the Free State.
Her career began in 2020 as Livestock Manager at Chunky Chicks and Beef Vauqulin Farming. In 2021, Sunel joined Stemma Professional Services, where she proudly supports the Arab Horse Society of South Africa β covering Arab, Shagya Arab, Anglo Arab, Part-bred Arab, Part-bred Shagya Arab, and Foundation Pintabian horses. Her dedication and hard work have made a big impact at the Society.
Beyond her professional expertise, Sunel has a deep love for horses. She is an avid rider and competed in tent pe***ng (gymkhana), earning Protea colours in 2018. She represented South Africa in the first Womenβs World Cup in Oman, where her Springbok team won the World Cup Championship β a highlight of her life. πΏπ¦β¨
Outside the office, Sunel enjoys photography, spending time outdoors with friends, and still farms alongside her dad, running the sheep operation on their family farm.
