GELYKFONTEIN STUD - NATIONAL YEARLING SALES DRAFT 2026
Gelykfontein Stud heads to the National Yearling Sale with a tight, quality draft. Interestingly, the stud has been breeding horses since 1935 and have supported these National Sales since then. The same family, the Van Der Walts, have owned and operated the farm during this 91 year time frame and would rank as one of the oldest farms in existence still breeding race horses.
In this year's draft two yearlings are presented by Gelykfontein including an Erik The Red and a Kommetdieding.
Erik The Red has already made early headlines after his sons Red Spice and Roskilde ran 1-2 in the G3 Cape Of Good Hope Nursery, while Kommetdieding, the “People’s Champion,” won both the G1 Vodacom Durban July and G1 Cape Town Met.
Schalkie Van Der Walt is particularly upbeat about their pair on offer.
Lot 85 (f Kommetdieding – Limpopo River)
“She is a very classy, racy looking filly, who is strong, longbodied, and has good hind quarters. This filly is correct and has a deep body.”
A half-sister to G1 Gold Medallion third No Laying Up, she comes from the same family as Lammtarra and Snow Bride.
Lot 285 (c Erik The Red – Zada)
“This is a big, tall c**t with good depth. He is already 16 hands high, and is rangy and very correct.”
His dam is a half-sister to four black-type horses, including champion Almah, dam of G3 winner Sensible Lover.
Both yearlings are in Block E at the TBA Complex in Germiston.
