This is what my asparagus field looks like in Gauteng in the middle of August. Pretty boring right! But the field is about a week away from exploding into a spiky carpet of yummy asparagus spears. Some early starters have popped up here and there but they are getting munched almost immediately - so much for the early bird and all that.
Driplines are being checked and tested tomorrow and then Asparagus season starts for Itsy Bitsy Farm

And so the asparagus season ends for Itsy Bitsy Farm but not the hard work of weeding and keeping our fields in tip top shape for next year. I am super happy that I invested in drip irrigation 3 years ago as rains have just passed us by this year. It is still very dry. A huge thanks to the agents at the Johannesburg Fresh Produce Market who are always helpful and friendly and especially to Lena at CL de Villiers for fantastic sales.
