🥔🧅 Backyard update! 🌱

I'm excited to share the progress of my potatoes and onions growing in my backyard garden. There is something truly rewarding about watching food grow from the soil and knowing exactly where it comes from.

This garden is a reminder that you don't need a large farm to start growing your own food. With a little space, care, and patience, amazing things can happen.

I'm looking forward to harvest time and grateful for every new leaf and every sign of growth.

🌱 Transforming Challenges into Opportunities 🌱

I turned a neglected side yard into a productive garden using an old bathtub and used tyres.

Preparing this piece of land was not easy. The soil was full of stones, making it difficult to dig and loosen the ground for planting. After many hours of hard work removing rocks, I decided not to waste them. Instead, I used the stones to build and raise my garden bed.

This project reminded me that every space has potential. Sometimes what looks like an obstacle can become part of the solution.

Good Morning Family 🌱

I would like to reintroduce myself. My name is Nomthandazo Tsembeni, founder of Gcinakazi Organic Farms.

It took me years to truly understand what every prophet spoke over my life — that I was not born to be an employee, but to create employment for myself and for this nation.

Looking back, I have spent fewer years as an employee than I have living through my gifts: music, poetry, jewellery, hairdressing, and ukuPhanta — from surveys and getting paid to try new apps, to housekeeping and gardening.

It took breaking my right ankle, spending eight weeks in a cast, tending to my garden in that condition, and the generous support of my local community — who bought my spinach — and one faithful regular customer, for me to truly see what had been in front of me all along. The backyard garden I started simply to save on daily vegetables had quietly become an income stream.

For years I gave freely — music, poetry, spiritual teachings, creative writing, tangible things, and transferable skills — without asking for anything in return. It was only when I was accepted into the StartYourBiz programme offered by GIBS (Gordon Institute of Business Science) that I finally came face to face with someone I had not properly met before: Nomthandazo Tsembeni the entrepreneur, who had been hiding behind the empath, the creative, the Lady Black Poet .

I am the Xhosa Garden Girl — and I am on a mission to turn a backyard garden into a supplier of organically grown produce to local supermarkets, retail stores, restaurants, and the community, while creating employment opportunities right where I live. 🌿

I had to be broken into pieces to become whole. I had to pause and refill my cup — because you cannot pour from an empty one. I am better than the person I was yesterday, and tomorrow I will be better than the person I am today. I am becoming the woman I was always destined to be.

I would like to welcome you to my journey as an emerging farmer — proudly awarded a place in the Number One Business School in Africa, alongside great entrepreneurs across Matjhabeng. 💚

Not every harvest begins with abundance. Sometimes it begins with faith... and a few humble beetroot. 🌱

This was my very first time planting beetroot. I watched them when they were still tiny, nurtured them through every stage, and recently... I harvested them.

Was it a huge harvest? No.
Was it worth every moment? Absolutely.
And the best part?
Taking what I grew with my own hands and turning it into a meal for the table.

At Gcinakazi Organic Farms, we are learning, growing, and building one harvest at a time.

This is only the beginning...
