At the end of an oak-lined cul de sac in wine country, Wellington, is a family-owned farm making tiny quantities of delightfully different wines. This is Welgegund, whose name, which translates as "well bestowed", gives hint of its natural attributes. South Africa's own cultivar, Pinotage, is at the heart of the three-wine range, while the equally popular Chiara blend of white Rhônal cultivars is

a four-star Platter's Guide laureate and frequent awards performer. Due for release is Ricco, a Mediterranean blend that, like its predecessors, is only to be made in limited amounts. Scenic and secluded, yet only 50 minutes from Cape Town CBD, a visit to Welgegund is a must for those who savour sumptuous wines, served up in a relaxed and friendly country vibe.
