La Cave - premium range Our history dates back to 1906, 1907 and 1941 when Wellington Co-operative Winery, Bovlei Co-operative and Wamakersvallei Wines were founded respectively. The accomplishments of each winery, together with a passion for wine and

shared interest in enriching the Wellington Wine industry, led to the three wine giants combing forces, merging in 2013 to form Wellington Wines. Our 56 member farmers across Wellington and neighbouring areas of the Swartland and Paarl, work closely with our winemakers and viticulturists to ensure only the best grapes are grown and hand-selected for their outstanding quality. Our ranges all carry the trademark of true quality, inspired by the people, the terroir and the rich history of our valley.

The Duke Proetafel is back! 🍷✨

Following last year’s successful Duke Proetafel experiences, Wellington Wines is excited to bring back this much-loved food-and-wine series - this time with chef Monique Nienaber leading the kitchen.

This is not a hands-on cooking class where guests prepare the food themselves. Instead, it’s a relaxed demonstration-style food-and-wine experience where you can sit back, watch, learn, taste and enjoy. Monique will share her knowledge, cooking techniques and love of fresh, seasonal flavours while preparing a beautiful 3-course meal, each course paired with wines from our portfolio.

Expect delicious food, perfectly paired wines, warm hospitality, good company and plenty of inspiration to take home with you.

Hosted in our Bovlei cellar on Bainskloof Road, Wellington, the Duke Proetafel takes place on:

Every year on the second Saturday of June, wine lovers around the world raise a glass to one of the most versatile white grape varieties — Chenin Blanc. From crisp and refreshing to rich, wooded, sparkling or sweet, Chenin truly has a style for every palate.

Join Wellington Wines at the Drink Chenin Festival on Saturday, 13 June 2026, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Cavalli Wine Estate in Somerset West, just outside Cape Town.

Please note that while access via the Bainskloof Pass is currently closed due to recent storm damage, the Wellington Wines tasting room and Duke’s Kitchen Restaurant remain open.

Guests can still reach us via the available access routes to Wellington Wines, so you can continue to enjoy wine tastings, relaxed picnics, and delicious meals at Duke’s Kitchen.

🍷 New Vintage Release: La Cave Shiraz 2021 🍷

The wait is over - our bold and expressive La Cave Shiraz 2021 has officially arrived. Crafted from a single, low-yield vineyard and matured for 18 months in French oak, this vintage is a true reflection of precision winemaking and Wellington terroir.

Expect deep ruby hues and an inviting bouquet of mulberries, plums, bramble fruit and exotic spice, layered with a subtle hint of liquorice. The palate is rich and generous, with juicy notes of blueberries, black cherries and roasted coffee beans, all supported by structured, well-integrated tannins. The finish? Long, savoury, and unmistakably memorable.

Perfect alongside roast lamb, sticky pork ribs, steak with pepper sauce, spicy sausages or aged cheeses - this is a wine built for indulgent moments.

After a long wait… it’s finally here.

The La Cave Pinotage 2021 has arrived — and it was well worth the patience.

An inviting deep purple in the glass, this wine opens with classic Pinotage allure: ripe plums, red berries, exotic spice, and a subtle earthy beetroot note. Layers of coffee bean and vanilla from carefully integrated oak add depth and intrigue.

The palate is precise and focused, with finely grained, mouth-coating tannins and beautifully balanced structure. The finish lingers with juicy, ripe plum and red fruit, delivering a dense yet elegant expression of Pinotage.
