Green Farms Nut Company

Green Farms Nut Company For macadamia growers wanting up-to-date information about the latest macadamia market, and horticulture practices. In 2010 Green Farms Nut Co.

Green Farms Nut Company (Pty) Ltd (GFNC) was established in 1991, as the first privately owned Macadamia processing factory in South Africa, and is now one of the largest processors of Macadamia kernel world-wide. Our factories are situated near White River (Mpumalanga), Levubu (Limpopo Province) and Ramsgate (Kwa-Zulu Natal). We also have an association with a production facility in Malawi. Each

year we carry out upgrades and modifications to our factories to ensure that we keep pace with the increasing size of the macadamia crop, and new technical developments in macadamia processing and food safety. Our modern factories are HACCP, ISO 22000, and we are the fist Macadamia processor globally to be accredited with FSSC 22000. started a marketing joint venture company with one of Australia’s largest macadamia processors, Suncoast Gold. The marketing company is called Green and Gold Macadamias (G&G), www.greenandgoldmacadamias.com. Green and Gold is one of the largest macadamia marketers in the world, where we are progressive and sophisticated in developing the world’s macadamia market. Other nut producing and processing facilities have seen G&G’s value and joined the marketing group. Stahmann Farms (Australia), Maclands (South Africa), Thyolo (Malawi) and Queen Nut (Brazil), are now onboard, growing our nut basket even further, making us the preferred partner for all major macadamia customers globally. In terms of our services to growers, we offer a very unique business model. We act as a toll processor and marketing agent on behalf of the growers and pay a 100% profit share to our growers should we sell over and above the indicative price, or should there be any additional exchange rate benefit. G&G has provided our farmers with crop security, and this has on average allowed GFNC to pay the highest prices to growers in the South African industry by some margin. GFNC, in contrast to competitors, does not force growers to sign supply agreements who get locked in with no other marketing option. Our growers have tested the market, and remain loyal to us, because we continuously offer the best price and service in the industry. In summary growers supply us because of the following:

- We don’t lock them in with supply agreements. They can leave at any time and keep their freedom of choice, this keeps GFNC on their toes, to supply the best possible service and prices. Our growers choose us because we do the best job.

- We have a unique business model that gives growers maximum return for their crop through our profit share model.

- Our marketing arm, Green & Gold Macadamias, is the most sophisticated marketing agent, and has a long-term sustainable strategy. We market in every major market in the world, and are not exposed to any one market more than 20%, spreading our market risk.

The Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, whose global membership includes CEOs of hotel groups and Le Cordon Blue chefs, offers an unparalleled platform to influence tomorrow’s high-end chefs. As Jill Whyte of Green Farms Nut Company explains, “This is a seed-planting event. Today’s junior chefs are tomorrow’s Michelin chefs, and they decide what becomes a luxury staple. Through this investment, we access an extraordinary high-end society that supports young chefs."

Macadamias South Africa (SAMAC) proudly sponsored last month's Chaîne des Rôtisseurs International Junior Chef Competition in Istanbul (Türkiye) securing macadamia nuts as a mandatory ingredient at the competition.

Growing South Africa’s mac supply without shrinking value

"As the world’s leading producer of macadamia nuts, South Africa’s industry must double down on its differentiators if it is to stay ahead of the game.

The next chapter might be defined not by how much the country produces, but by how effectively it positions and grows what it produces. It will require individuals to choose consistent quality as its unique selling proposition, linked to aligned market development and investment." - Alex Whyte

How South Africa’s macadamia industry’s tackles the next chapter in its history will define the longevity of its influence on world markets and production standards, writes Alex Whyte, Executive Chairman of Green Farms Nut Company. By Alex Whyte As the world’s leading producer of macadamia nut...

Green Farms Nut Company & Green & Gold Macadamias at INC 2026 | Macao, China

Recently, the Green Farms Nut Company (GFNC) team together with the Green & Gold Macadamias sales and marketing team attended the 43rd International Nut & Dried Fruit Council (INC) Congress in Macao, China - one of the world’s leading gatherings for the nut and dried fruit industry.

A key highlight was GFNC Executive Chairman Alex Whyte chairing the Macadamia Round Table, bringing together players from across the global macadamia value chain to discuss market dynamics, growth opportunities and the outlook for the category.

Panel participants included:
• Yuxiu Chen – Yunnan Macadamia Industry Development Group Co. Ltd. (China)
• Ben Adams – Marquis Macadamias (Australia)
• Matti Spiecker – Limbua (Kenya/Germany)
• Thomas Nottebohm – Mayan Gold Macadamia (Guatemala)
• Beatriz Camargo Leal – QueenNut Macadamia (Brazil)

Discussion highlighted a long-term outlook for macadamias. Global production is estimated at ~394,000 MT NIS, with China and South Africa each contributing ~100,000 MT. While the industry is experiencing a shift in supply-demand dynamics, industry focus remains on building sustainable demand and reinforcing macadamias’ premium positioning globally.

Key take-outs included:
• Continued investment in market development and consumer awareness
• Growth opportunities through increased supply, product innovation and ingredient-led collaborations
• Strong positioning of macadamias as a premium, versatile nut
• Increasing focus on nutrition, with macadamias valued for their healthy fats and fibre, unique omega-7 content and ability to support satiety and balanced snacking
• Continued investment in technology and food safety to improve quality, efficiency and consumer confidence

While profitability remains a challenge across the broader tree nut industry amid continued global pressures, slower planting trends are expected to support a healthier supply-demand balance over time. Overall, future growth is expected to come from stronger consumer demand, continued innovation in the snacking and ingredient space and reinforcing macadamias’ premium, nutritious positioning.
