🥩 CONSCIOUS MEAT EATERS, THIS ONE’S FOR YOU.

Why does Floreer beef look, taste and sometimes even differ in fat content from one season to the next?

Because we don’t farm our cattle in the conventional sense. We work with the veld.

Here’s a little insight into the beef behind Floreer:

🌿 Angus × Tuli

The Tuli is a golden-yellow to red, medium-framed beef cattle breed originating from Zimbabwe, from indigenous Sanga cattle. It is renowned for high fertility, tick resistance and heat tolerance, thriving in harsh, semi-arid environments and producing tender, well-marbled beef.

🌿 Veld reared

Our herd grazes on indigenous vegetation in the Steytlerville district of the Groot Karoo.

🌿 Way beyond “grass fed”

There is no intensive farming associated with their rearing.

No ploughing.
No sowing.
No irrigation.
No fertilising or related inputs.

🌿 Zero intervention beef

There is no cattle infrastructure on Suidland Farm. No kraals, head bales, vaccination or dipping resources.

It’s about as close to wild beef as we can get.

In fact, we find that the meat can have a subtle gamey quality in flavour.

🌿 The beef doesn’t travel

Our cattle are harvested in the veld with a silencer and slaughtered on the farm.

For the longest time, we have presented the Floreer beef to you unsupplemented, just as the veld provided it.

This means that during dry spells, we naturally ate leaner beef as a community.

Although the Steytlerville region had good rain this winter, we’ve found that our cattle are putting on weight, but not necessarily fat. We suspect this will change as the weather warms and the vegetation’s metabolic processes strengthen.

🌿 So why have we introduced oats?

Floreer does not want to participate in the animal fodder industry, on principle.

But we have worked with Suidland Farm to sow organically cultivated oats as a natural source of additional nutrition, with the aim of enhancing the fat content of the meat.

This is the Floreer approach: understanding the land, respecting the animal and being transparent about what ends up on your plate.

The future of food isn’t about doing more.
It’s about doing better. 🌱

Choosing food grown with care.
Supporting healthier soil.
Respecting the seasons.
And creating a system that gives back more than it takes.

A slower way of life. A kinder way of growing. A better future.

This is the kind of future we believe in at Floreer.
Local goodness, grown with intention. 🌿

Hello, Floreer community 💚

We’ve been working on something very special at Floreer, and this Friday we’d love for you to come and taste it with us.

We will be tasting our spelt rolls as well as something we’re particularly excited about - our very first gluten-free loaf and might we add, it’s lip-smackingly good.

And if you’ve been wondering… what exactly is spelt?

Spelt is an ancient variety of wheat that has been cultivated for thousands of years. It has a wonderfully nutty flavour and, when used as a whole grain, naturally provides fibre, protein and important minerals.

Unlike refined white flour, whole-grain spelt retains more of the grain — including the fibre-rich bran and nutrient-rich germ.

And then there’s something completely new.

We’re also introducing our first Gluten-Free Bread — a proper 675 g loaf for R130.

For a little perspective, a comparable gluten-free loaf from a major retailer works out to approximately R158 for 675 g.

That means we’re able to offer our community a substantial gluten-free loaf at R28 less — without compromising on what goes into it.

Come taste both this Friday at Floreer.

Try the spelt.
Try the gluten-free.
Ask us questions.
And tell us what you think.

Because for us good food is about knowing what we eat, understanding where it comes from, and making better food more accessible to our community. 💚

🌱 FOR THE PLANT LOVERS. THE VEGGIES. THE VEGANS. THE VEGETARIANS. 🌱

We know that Floreer’s food system includes meat and we’re passionate about doing that part of it with reverence, transparency and respect for the animal, the farmer and the land.

But Floreer has always been, and will always be, so much bigger than meat.

Our shelves are bursting with beautiful things for those who choose to eat entirely from the plant kingdom, too. 🌿

Organic vegetables. Beautiful grains. Breads. Ferments. Pantry staples. Plant-based meals. Fresh, local ingredients. Clever little things made in our own kitchen.

A food system with room for everyone.

So whether your plate is completely plant-powered, occasionally omnivorous, or somewhere wonderfully in between, there’s a place for you at Floreer.

Come have a look at what’s growing, fermenting, baking, cooking and landing in our little local food system.

Come hungry. Leave connected. 🌱
