🦊✨Quiet stories from the Karoo ✨🦊

Black Backed Jackals are the Karoo’s survivors. Small, clever and fiercely adaptable, they thrive where others might falter. They hunt alone or in pairs, taking down hares, springhares and even young antelope, but they are also nature’s clean-up crew — scavenging what lions and cheetahs leave behind, keeping the ecosystem in balance.

They mate for life, and pairs are often seen trotting side by side, raising their pups in hidden dens among the scrub. Fierce parents, they defend their families with surprising bravery, standing up to much larger animals when threatened.

In the Karoo, the jackal is more than a trickster. It is the wild spirit that threads the night together, a voice echoing across valleys to remind us that this land belongs to the untamed. 🌙✨
