LONG BUT WORTH READING!😊
20 Tools You Need to be a Successful LEADER
I share these lessons with you.
1. COURAGE
As a leader have courage to speak, write, stand or even sit down purely based on conviction and values. Courage moulded in truth will outlive anything else.
2. STRATEGY
Leadership is about strategy. Like chase, checkers and snakes and ladders, leadership too requires climbing steps, sliding down at times. In China they say, "Better a diamond with a flaw than a pebble without one. ..."
3. NETWORKING
In leadership you need both friends and enemies. Both of them provide lessons and both guide your soul. No man is an island. There are times you many need to burry your pride and ask for help from juniors and from people you consider inferior. That is leadership.
4. READ THE MOOD CORRECTLY
"When the winds of change blow, some people build walls and others build windmills." Chinese Proverb
Know when the East has moved to the West and when North has gone South. Like the Sons of Issachar in the bible (1 Chronicles12:32), Know what season you are in. Peter Drucker once said "Managers know what time it is. Leaders know where in time they are".
5. MASTER PUBLIC SPEAKING
You don't have to be a master speaker. But know the art of story telling. Know how to convince people. Know how to share ideas.
6. USE TECHNOLOGY WELL
Never abuse technology just to get more likes and more views. Stay true to who you are. Be a balanced user of technology.
7. THINK LIKE A THIEF
The bible says be harmless like a dove but think like a snake. Make sure you outsmart and outlive your enemies. But pray that they be around long enough to witness the goodness of God.
8. BE ORGANISED
Leadership is not about position and ranks. People love respect. But as a leader you will be more productive when organised. Cross your t's, dot your i's and underline your punchlines. Disorganisation is the greatest enemy of many leaders.
9. SAY LITTLE
I once met a man who used to promise a certain lady that he would marry her and get her pregnant. Eventually the lady got tired of his promises. So one day as they met, the man started to say to her..."one day I will marry....."
She never let him finish his sentence. She shouted midstream his rantings, "shut up, marry me and get me pregnant."
Leadership is like that. The more results you give the more you resonate.
10. LOOK SIMPLE
Always welcome those who underestimate you and your potential. There is power in being an underdog.
11. CULTIVATE TEAM WORK
Be a team player and be a person who works to unite rather than to devide. Mind not just your words to others but your actions too. We reap what we sow.
12. BRING SOME MAGIC TO THE TABLE
Every human being has a talent. Your job as a leader is to create or foster an environment where people thrive and prosperity becomes eminent.
13. LEARN TO APOLOGISE
In your journey as a leader your worst enemy may be your mouth. One day you may say things unverified or just not factual. Learn to say sorry. When you humble yourself before people, the same people will lift you up. The opposite is also true.
13. THINK BIG BUT ACT SMALL
We wear socks before shoes. It's always in that order for a reason. So think strategy. Big picture is always clarified by small steps taken by people with big hearts. Be a dreamer who takes one step at a time.
14. NEVER ATTACK INDIVIDUALS
Our enemies were not individuals but ideologies. Always remember this. You can point out a wrong without humiliating anyone. It is possible to differ with people and still have respect for them.
15. MENTORSHIP
We don't succeed alone. Don't tell your enemy everything but don't let them suspect you everytime. A good mentor will guide your strategically better than a big crowd can influence you.
16. BE READY FOR ANYTHING
"If you don't know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else." ~ Yogi Berra
There are many roads to any place worth going. But some roads are not worth taking. Determine which road leads you where. But be ready for anything.
Accept certain roads but never accept their destination. A detour here and there is normal in life.
17. TAKE RISKS
"Strategic planning is the continuous process of making present entrepreneurial (risk-taking) decisions systematically and with the greatest knowledge of their futurity; organizing systematically the efforts needed to carry out these decisions; and measuring the results of these decisions against the expectations through organized, systematic feedback." Peter Drucker
18. ENJOY THE IMPERFECTIONS OF LIFE
"There would be no need for love if perfection were possible. Love arises from our imperfection, from our being different and always in need of the forgiveness, encouragement and that missing half of ourselves that we are searching for, as the Greek myth tells us, in order to complete ourselves." Eugene Kennedy
Don't push for perfection. Seek rather conviction that is perfectly 🥰 understood.
19. STUDY YOUR FIELD AND MORE
As a leader Ignorance must not be your portfolio. Each day expose your mind to new ideas and new things.
2 Timothy 2:15 - "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman........"
20. AIM HIGHER
Never settle. Be thankful but never settle.
Each day is an opportunity to bring new things in your life.
CONCLUSION
Leadership is not a destination. Leadership is a place to realise and to become. Leadership is a chance to explore yourself first then join hands with those in similar persuasions. Seek not perfection but rather the maximisation of opportunities around you.
As you shine, allow others to shine and be not intimidated by the light and glow of others. Remember a candle losses nothing by lighting another candle (James Keller).
