TYES OF FISH FARMING

There are several types of fish farming, namely; Pond farming, Polyculture, Aquaculture and Land-based farming.

1. Pond farming
- A method of fish farming that uses ponds
- ⁠Can be used for polyculture, which is raising more than one species of fish in the same pond.

2. Land-based farming
- Takes place in man-made ponds or tanks on land
- ⁠Can be located near cities and towns, making it easier to get fresh fish to consumers
- ⁠Uses less water than other types of farms
- ⁠Can produce significant amounts of waste, which can pollute waterways if not properly managed.

3. Polyculture
- The practice of raising more than one species of aquatic organism in the same pond
- ⁠The principle is that fish production in ponds may be maximized by raising a combination of species having different food habits.

4. Aquaculture
- A type of farming that includes fish farming, shellfish farming, and algaculture
- ⁠Can include organic aquaculture
Other types of aquaculture include: Farming of other invertebrates, Algaculture, and Organic aquaculture.
