Water is more than a service. It is life, health, dignity, economic growth, and human development. Every day, dedicated public servants work tirelessly to ensure that homes, schools, hospitals, industries, and communities have access to safe and reliable water and sanitation services.
As Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company (LWSC) joins the nation in commemorating Africa Public Service Day 2026, we celebrate the commitment, dedication, and professionalism of public servants who work to improve the lives of citizens through the delivery of essential services.
This year's theme, "Enhancing Public Service Institutions and Empowering Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships to Achieve Universal Water Availability and Safe Sanitation by 2030," resonates strongly with LWSC's mission and vision for the future.
At LWSC, providing water and sanitation is more than a mandateโit is a responsibility to safeguard public health, drive economic development, support education, and improve the quality of life for present and future generations.
To meet the growing demand for water and sanitation services and support Zambia's Vision 2030 aspirations, LWSC is implementing and preparing several transformative projects aimed at securing Lusaka's water and sanitation future. These include:
๐ฐ The Kafue Bulk Water Supply Project Phase II, a strategic investment that will further increase water production capacity and strengthen long-term water security for Lusaka and surrounding areas. Once completed, the project will deliver an additional 100 million litres of water per day, significantly improving water availability and supporting the growing demand for services.
๐ฐ The Bauleni Water Supply Improvement Project, a Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and African Development Bank (AfDB) funded project, which will enhance access to safe and reliable water for residents of Bauleni and neighbouring communities, improving service delivery and contributing to better public health outcomes.
๐ฐ The Lusaka City Water Supply Improvement Project, which focuses on expanding water supply services to underserved and unserviced areas within the Greater City of Lusaka, ensuring more residents have access to reliable and safe water services.
๐ฐ The Chongwe Dam Project, a long-term water resource development initiative that will bring additional raw water to support the future growth and increasing water demand of water-stressed Chongwe District.
๐ฝ The Construction of the No. 2 Energy Autonomous Wastewater Treatment Plant, a transformative sanitation project that will improve wastewater management, environmental protection, and sustainable sanitation service delivery.
These investments demonstrate LWSC's commitment to ensuring that every resident has access to safe water and dignified sanitation services while laying the foundation for a resilient and sustainable future.
As we commemorate Africa Public Service Day, we reaffirm our commitment to working with Government, cooperating partners, communities, and all stakeholders to achieve universal access to water and sanitation by 2030.
We invite members of the public to visit the LWSC exhibition stand at the East Park Mall Piazza and learn more about the projects, innovations, and partnerships that are shaping the future of water and sanitation service delivery in Lusaka Province.
