**Raising geese and rabbits together offers a unique and rewarding experience for anyone who enjoys caring for animals. Geese are known for their strong protective instincts, calm nature, and ability to adapt to outdoor environments. They are excellent at keeping watch over their surroundings, making them natural guardians for a small farm or reserve. Geese also thrive on simple diets and enjoy spending time in water, which helps maintain their health and overall well-being. Their social behavior and attachment to their caretaker make them easy to manage and enjoyable to raise.

Rabbits, on the other hand, are gentle animals that adapt well to different habitats when given proper care. They require clean shelters, nutritious food, and a safe environment where they can move freely. Rabbits are known for their quiet behavior, fast growth, and ability to reproduce, which makes them valuable for small-scale breeding projects. Their calm temperament and friendly interaction with humans allow them to live comfortably around other animals when supervised.

Raising both geese and rabbits together can create a peaceful and natural environment. Each species brings its own benefits, while their combined presence adds life and balance to the place. With proper care, clean habitats, and regular feeding, they can grow strong and healthy, offering a wonderful experience for anyone who enjoys nature and animal care.**

GINGER

In Zambia, the best time to plant ginger is during the start of the rainy season, from November to December. If you're using irrigation, planting can be done earlier, in September or October, to extend the growing season and increase yields. Ginger requires consistent moisture, warmth, and humidity to grow well.
Planting Time:
November-December: Ideal for rainfed ginger, as it aligns with the rainy season.
September-October: Possible for irrigated ginger, allowing for an earlier start.
Key Considerations:
Moisture: Ginger thrives with consistent water, so planting at the beginning of the rainy season ensures this.
Temperature: Ginger prefers warm temperatures between 70-90°F (21-32°C).
Growing Season: The plant needs a long growing season, typically 6-8 months, for the rhizomes (the part you harvest) to mature.
Harvesting:
Harvest time depends on the variety and growing conditions, but generally occurs after 6-8 months.
You can harvest younger, milder ginger after 4-5 months.
Look for signs of maturity like yellowing and drying leaves

IN PICTURES

A Southern African Python that was injured in Lusaka’s southern Vorna Valley earlier this week has successfully undergone surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.

The python sustained two wounds after an encounter with a gardener. Following initial inspection and X-rays, veterinarians confirmed that the snake had no broken ribs and that its lungs remained intact, easing fears of severe internal damage.

The reptile was taken into surgery where the wounds were carefully cleaned and stitched by Dr. Mudenda, a specialist veterinarian in tropical wildlife. During the procedure, veterinarians also carried out a full skin inspection and removed approximately 15 ticks from the python.

According to Snake Safety Zambia, the python is responding well to treatment and is scheduled for further antibiotics and a medical review on Monday. The organization has so far incurred costs of K2,500 for the surgery and aftercare.

Snake Safety Zambia has appealed to the public for financial support to help cover the expenses of the rescue and rehabilitation. Contributions can be made via mobile money on 0974248144.
