WHAT I WISH I KNEW EARLIER‼️
We are living in a time when education has become highly competitive. Unlike in the old days, education is now more accessible to the average Zambian, and as a result, the number of graduates entering the job market continues to increase while employment opportunities remain limited.
So, how do you survive in a system where the chances of securing formal employment are becoming increasingly difficult?
Skills ‼️
Education gives you knowledge, but skills give you the ability to put that knowledge into practice and create opportunities for yourself.
This is why every parent has a core responsibility to not only send their children to school but also to train, expose, and equip them with relevant practical skills that can help them become self-reliant and survive in an ever-changing economy.
Today, we have highly educated graduates, some graduating with outstanding results from reputable universities who struggle immensely when they cannot secure employment. The transition from university into the reality of unemployment can be overwhelming.
Why?
Because for many, education prepared them to look for a job, but they were never adequately equipped with the skills to create one.
We must therefore change the way we think about education.
Don't just educate children, equip them.
Don't just prepare them to seek employment, prepare them to create opportunities.
Don't give them certificates alone, give them skills that can sustain them.
The future belongs not only to those with Degrees, but to those who can combine education with relevant, practical, and marketable skills.
