From seed to sorting fruit… we are finally harvesting!!!

This harvest carries more than cucumbers, it carries patience, lessons learned, losses endured.

Not every fruit made it to market... some were lost along the way as we learned the discipline and precision that commercial production demands.

And now, seeing these cucumbers harvested, sorted, and finally delivered is a reminder that growth takes time — and resilience.

This is more than a delivery. It is evidence of progress, hard work, and women steadily finding their place in sustainable agriculture.

Last week, we had the privilege of hosting two important visits at Wenashe Farms — a partnership visit from Women in Agriculture Union -WAU , and a separate technical support visit from the Head Agronomist and Technical Head: Crop Protection from ETG Agri Inputs Zimbabwe.

What made these moments especially meaningful was the continued partnership and support from WAU towards the women agripreneurs in our Soil to Soilless journey. It is truly heartwarming to walk alongside these women as they begin to chart their own individual paths in climate-smart agriculture — each one contributing towards building more sustainable and resilient food systems in Zimbabwe.

The engagement with the ETG agronomy team brought valuable technical depth to our work, with practical insights around nutrient management, system optimisation, and the day-to-day discipline required in hydroponic production.

Together, these visits reflect what building Wenashe Farms is really about — not just growing crops, but building systems, strengthening people, and learning through collaboration.

We are grateful for partners and institutions that walk this journey with us, not ahead of us.

Our cucumber crop is performing very well, with increased fruiting observed across the vines. There have been a lot of surprises... and learnings too!
As the plants enter this demanding reproductive phase, we continue to monitor them for traces of stress and nutrient deficiency. The increased nutrient demands during fruiting require careful management, and we continue to adjust our feeding and watering schedules to ensure the plants have the necessary resources to sustain high yields without compromising their overall health.

From the float trays… fragile and delicate… our cucumber is now a thriving, trained crop! 🌱
We made it through transplant shock ... with a few losses, but even more lessons.
Proud of the ladies for their care, consistency, and commitment to learning.
We grow. We adapt. We keep going.

There are moments that remind you why you started… and last week was one of them.

In partnership with EEP Africa and Lanforce Energy Biogas , we had the honour of hosting the Ambassador Dr. Valérie Liechti, Head of the Africa Division at the Swiss Development & Cooperation and the Embassy of Switzerland to Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe Delegation at our farm, in Ruwa.

This was a moment to share our story, walk the land, and reflect on the journey of our Soil to Soilless Agriprenuer Training Project.

But what stood out the most … it was the women agriprenuers!

To witness our agripreneurs — once shy, reserved, and uncertain — now standing confidently, speaking boldly, and owning their journeys… was nothing short of profound.

This is the true impact. Growth you can see. Confidence you can feel. Transformation that goes beyond farming.

We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to share this space, this vision, and this journey.

Our seedlings are thriving!
This week we started seeing the true leaves emerging, the ones every grower recognizes. A true moment.

🌱 What we are seeing:
Strong, healthy seedlings developing their true leaves.

💧 What we are learning:
We witnessed the first drop in water levels, a clear sign that the plants are actively taking up nutrients.

🌿 Why it matters:
This stage tells us the seedlings are establishing well and the growth rate... phenomenal!

We are now halfway through the nursery stage, and the transformation is already incredible. Imagine what these will look like in 6 weeks!
