Why purify borehole water in town? 💧
A lot of people in Harare think "borehole = safe". But town boreholes can still have problems. Here’s why purification matters:
1. CONTAMINATION RISKS IN TOWN
• Sewage/septic leaks - In dense suburbs, boreholes can be too close to septic tanks or old sewer pipes. Risk of E.coli, cholera, typhoid.
• Fuel & chemicals - Garages, factories, and dumps can leak diesel, oil, and chemicals into groundwater
• Fertilizers & pesticides - Runoff from gardens/lawns ends up in the aquifer
• Heavy metals - Old pipes, rust, and natural minerals like iron, manganese, lead can leach in
2. HARD WATER PROBLEMS
Town borehole water is usually "hard" = high in calcium + magnesium.
• Scale - Blocks geysers, kettles, pipes, washing machines. Shortens appliance life
• Soap waste - Soap doesn’t lather. You use more and skin feels dry
• Stains - White marks on taps, tiles, cars
3. TASTE, SMELL & HEALTH
• Bad taste/smell - Iron = metallic taste. Sulphur = "rotten egg" smell
• Turbidity - Sand, silt, cloudy water that clogs filters and stains clothes
• Nitrates & Phosphates - From farming/gardens. Too much is bad for babies and causes algae
4. PROTECT YOUR INVESTMENT
A purification system pays for itself by:
1. Protecting geysers + plumbing - No more replacing burst geysers from scale
2. Better health - Clean, safe drinking + cooking water for your family
3. Saving money - Less soap, less detergent, fewer appliance repairs
4. Peace of mind - Even when ZINWA water is off, your borehole water is safe
WHAT AQUA-NEWZIM USUALLY RECOMMENDS FOR TOWN BOREHOLES
1. Sediment filter - removes sand/silt
2. Carbon filter - removes chlorine, bad taste, chemicals
3. Water softener - removes hardness/scale
4. RO or UV - for drinking water to kill bacteria/viruses
