Day 7 Update 🐤

Week 1 done!
Stats: Mortality: 7 | Feed: 166kg | Avg Weight: 139g | Brooder Temp: 29-30°C

The nights are now cold, and the days aren’t warming up much. Kune chando nemhepo kunyanya manheru, so we’re only opening curtains for a few hours. The chicks are showing resilience, but growth is a bit slower than we wanted. The average of 139g is below the standard average of 175g at Day 7.

We had a respiratory infection challenge (kukosora) in week 1 due to the cold wind. We treated it with Sulphadimidine (Antibiotic) + RespiBoost (a natural supplement that clears airways, soothes irritated throats, and reduces stress in young chicks), and the infection has now subsided. 3 birds are still under special care in quarantine. We wish them well.

Heating costs will go up because we foresee extending brooding beyond Day 14 to keep them warm. We’ll add more wood and push through.
