🌧️🍓 REAL TALK: The rain has humbled us.

Swipe the photos before you judge us 😔👇

When the rains came, we celebrated.
Rain means life. Growth. Opportunity.

But rain also brought uninvited guests…

•Anthracnose.
•Botrytis.

And suddenly our beautiful strawberries started looking like they attended a very bad party 😭

Yes, we had to temporarily stopped fruit production.

Not because we don’t know what we’re doing.
Not because strawberries don’t work.
But because farming is not Instagram. It’s real life.

🍓Some fruits got infected.
🍓 Some had to be removed.
🍓 Some lessons came back to remind us:
“This is agriculture. Respect it.” 🌧️

Here’s the part nobody likes to post about.

People love harvest photos.
They love profit stories.
They love “easy money” farming videos.

But this?
This is the part that builds real farmers.

And here’s the good news 👇

There IS a solution.
There is management.
There is prevention.
There is biological control.
There are systems that reduce these losses.

we don’t just shout “profits profits profits!” 😅

We talk about:

✔ Proper spacing and airflow
✔ Preventive spraying schedules

🍓 **THE GREAT STRAWBERRY DEBATE: GREENHOUSE vs LOW TUNNEL** 🍓

Every strawberry farmer starts with one dream:

I'll plant strawberries and by next month I'll be driving a Prado..." 😅

Then reality arrives rain and more rain wearing muddy gumboots and carrying a spray pump.

It does not hit you that much when it rains and you have just planted but let the rain catch you when you are fruiting.

So, which system should you choose?

Let's settle the debate. This is a topic we cover when farmers come for class at our farm for training.

🏡 **TEAM GREENHOUSE**

The greenhouse farmer walks around proudly, pointing at the plastic cover like it's a luxury penthouse for strawberries.

✅ Better protection from excessive rain.

✅ Reduced disease pressure.However when it hits it hits very proudly.

✅ Easier environmental management

✅ Higher fruit quality and consistency

✅ Extended production periods

The greenhouse strawberry often grows up thinking dust, hail, and heavy rain are just stories told by old farmers.

**The catch?**

💰 Higher initial investment

💰 More management required.You NEED to first setup a footbath right at the entrance.

💰 Mistakes become expensive lessons.

A greenhouse can multiply profits... but it can also multiply mistakes if nutrition, irrigation, and climate management are ignored.

🌱 **TEAM LOW TUNNEL**

The low tunnel farmer is the street-smart entrepreneur of the strawberry world.

✅ Much lower setup cost

✅ Excellent protection from direct rain

✅ Easier entry for beginners

✅ Faster return on investment

✅ Suitable for scaling gradually

Low tunnels don't pretend to be luxury apartments. They are practical shelters that get the job done.

**The catch?**

☀️ Less environmental control

🌧️ More vulnerable to extreme weather

🍄 Disease management requires extra vigilance

📉 Fruit quality can fluctuate more depending on conditions

✅ A very attentive farmhand on their toes and willing to put in the work.

🎯 **THE REALITY CHECK**

🍓 STRAWBERRY LOGIC 101 🍓

Some people want a strawberry harvest that looks like it belongs in a supermarket advert… but their plants are surviving on vibes, old manure from 2023, and pure hope. 😅

Strawberries are a bit like toddlers, they are dramatic, demanding, and if you ignore feeding schedules, they will absolutely let you know. Yellow leaves? Tiny fruits? Sad-looking plants? That’s your strawberry staging a protest.

A healthy strawberry plant needs:
✅ Good soil/media drainage
✅ Proper nutrition (not “whichever fertilizer was nearest”).

Proper trageted nutrition is very important.Feed Potassium when needed. Feed Calcium when needed. Feed Nitrogen when needed. Understand what each nutrient does and what can be inhibitors.

✅ Regular watering.There is a sweetspot for strawberries
✅ Pest and disease management
✅ Enough sunlight to actually photosynthesize and not just exist

When you do it right, the reward is sweet, juicy, beautiful strawberries that don’t need filters to look attractive..

🍓✨. We managed to get a Brix level of 17%.

And speaking of doing it right… why start with questionable planting material when you can begin with quality?
