Prolonged rainfall has both positive and negative impacts on farming. Drying Lucerne and lab lab is our usual practice, but the overcast conditions made this unfeasible. As an alternative, we dug a small pit to produce Lucerne and lab lab silage, rather than collecting costly manure. This innovative approach underscores the importance of acquiring a chaff cutter and pellet machine. Our farming operations benefit from the lessons learned through each setback.

Diligent farming yields a sense of satisfaction. The irony lies in the fact that farmers work tirelessly to produce excellent results, only to have their efforts seemingly wasted by the end-consumer. However, witnessing the vigor and energy of goats upon consuming their meals never fails to evoke excitement, rather than frustration, due to their remarkable resilience.

Life does not happen by itself, Everything has to start from the soil. We are so proud with progress so far in preparation for our silage making. Planted maize, lab lab and forage sorghum. A combination that we believe will reduce our costs next year.

We also added few portions of perennial rye grass and katabora grass to boost our animals throughout the year.

We are excited with little things we do that makes huge difference at KudBat Kalahari reds & Boer goats.

Thank you so much to all those who assisted in the making of urea treatment of maize stover at KudBat Kalahari reds & Boer goats today. This amazing effort was to improve the nutritive value of maize stovers, in terms of total content, energy digestibility and intake. In goats it functions as a source of nitrogen for protein biosynthesis in the digestive tract. This will help us especially this dry season.
