30 mm and still raining on the coast at Tolivar Angus. What a beautiful day of rain. Not sure what we will do with the rain coming for the remainder of the week. Pleased we are 4 weeks out from calving, it may dry up a little bit before calving begins.

Calving for our 2-year-old commercial heifers is set to commence in 5 weeks, with a tightly controlled 5-week calving period enabling efficient herd management.

The yearling bulls enjoying their topped up hay feeder this morning on the last day of autumn. This group will be available as 18month old bulls at Nutrien’s Tasmanian Angus Autumn Bull Sale in September.

At our home, it’s not all about cows and bulls. We love where we live on the coast. To have a view like this is amazing and we are so thankful. Oh yes cows and bulls are out the other side of our house. It’s lovely to have a farm that is so close to the ocean, yet having a very productive seed stock farm developing on your door step facing the other way is so beautiful.

The Autumn bulls are really showing their genetic improvement. At 400 days they average 50 kilograms heavier than last year’s bull cohort at the same age. A number of these are sired by Alpine 38 Special who has been a true standout for passing on his excellent genetics as well as his enormous fleshing ability.
