When you order an orchard kit, if you need a piece of netting wider than 15m, we join it for you πŸ§΅πŸ•ŠοΈ

We start with netting that comes off the bale in four widths: 10m, 12.5m, 13.5m or 15m. From there, we work out which two pieces will best suit your structure size, cut them to length and join them together.

Joining netting takes time and patience. Every mesh is lined up, and we thread a UV-stabilised nylon wire through each mesh for a strong, tidy join. The nylon wire is not really a wire at all. It is a solid extruded nylon core that is strong under tension, smooth so it will not rub through the netting and flexible enough to make stitching easy.

If you would like to try joining your own netting, that is definitely an option. Our tip is to pick a mellow podcast, settle in and quietly thread the nylon wire through each mesh for a consistent, even join.

If you are ready to get started on your Orchard Structure, one of the first things you will need to do (after talking to us!) is lock in a supplier for your pine poles 🌿πŸͺ΅

You are looking for poles between 4m and 4.5m long, which will give you a structure around 3m to 3.5m high, with about 1m buried securely in the ground. Aim for poles in the 150-180mm diameter range so the pole caps fit perfectly.

Pine poles have been a bit tricky to source lately, but we hear Koppers in Bunbury has some stock. It is also worth trying Minorba in Mt Barker or your local rural supply store.

Once you have your poles sorted, give us a ring to order your kit. It is much easier if you prep your poles before putting them in the ground. Doing the prep work on the ground saves a lot of time up a ladder.

Good luck getting started on your project. If you have questions:

DIY can mean Do It Yourself, or it can mean Do It Your Way πŸ› οΈπŸŒΏ

When it comes to building our Orchard Structures, our customers take all sorts of approaches. Some people follow our instructions exactly. Others customise their build to suit their property. You might add vermi‑mesh around the bottom for extra rabbit protection. In areas with kangaroos or other larger animals, adding a white or coloured sighter wire helps with visibility. If you are in a windy area, a strip of shadecloth along the side facing the prevailing winds works as a windbreak and also makes the structure easier for wildlife to see.

When you order, you can choose your own gate: a single pedestrian gate, two pedestrian gates, or a machinery gate. The kits are flexible enough to create what you have in mind, and the components are robust, so however you build your orchard structure, it will last the distance.

If you have questions or a specific plan in mind, give us a call; we are happy to help.

Beautiful autumn weather πŸ‚ Such a great time to be out in the garden.

If you are planning your winter vege patch, here is some inspo for what you can plant:
Runner beans, broad beans, beetroot, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, chives, garlic, globe artichoke, kale, leek, onions, spring onions, parsnips, potatoes, silverbeet, spinach and turnips.

Just looking at that list makes us think of delicious soups. Happy growing. It will be so worth the effort when harvest time arrives πŸ₯•πŸ²πŸŒΏ

If this is the year you are finally ticking "build a covered orchard" off your list, and you have had some rain to soften the soil, now is the perfect time to start getting your poles into the ground 🌧️πŸͺ΅

Soft soil makes digging the holes for your poles and drop anchors much easier, so take advantage of the conditions while they are in your favour.

If you are planning to use one of our EZBuild kits, remember we are always happy to help with advice on how many poles you will need and the best layout or positioning before you put anything in the ground.

It also helps to prep your poles before they go in. Doing the prep work on the ground saves time later and means less work up a ladder.
