🐐 FRESH TASMANIAN GOAT AVAILABLE
Fresh goat is becoming one of Tasmania’s fastest growing specialty meats, and we’re excited to now have it available in store.
Goat Forequarter Chops – $18.99/kg
These chops are packed with flavour and are perfect for slow cooking, curries, stews, soups, braises or cooking over the BBQ. The forequarter contains a combination of muscle, bone and connective tissue that breaks down beautifully during cooking, creating rich flavour and tender meat.
Why eat goat?
Goat meat (also known as chevon) is one of the leanest red meats available.
Compared with beef and lamb, goat is generally:
✔ Lower in fat
✔ Lower in saturated fat
✔ Lower in cholesterol
✔ High in protein
✔ Rich in iron, zinc and vitamin B12
✔ Naturally nutrient dense
Many people describe the flavour as sitting somewhere between lamb and beef, with a clean, slightly earthy taste that isn’t as fatty as lamb.
Tasmanian goat industry
Fresh goat meat is still relatively rare in Tasmania, which makes it a bit of a hidden gem. Demand for locally produced fresh goat has grown rapidly in recent years, with Tasmanian producers struggling to keep up with customer demand.
Tasmania is home to several Boer goat breeders and producers who focus on high-quality meat goats raised on pasture-based systems. Many local farms use regenerative farming practices and free-range grazing, producing premium goat meat for the Tasmanian market.
We’re proud to source from local suppliers including Tas Premium Goat Meat, helping support the growing Tasmanian goat industry.
Pop in and give it a try, you might just discover your new favourite winter meat.
