Taking advantage of favourable weather, crews have undertaken a strategic hazard reduction to protect 16 properties along the interface at Cromer Road Reserve.

As we look towards summer small burns such as this provide a mosaic to help prevent the spread of larger fires should they occur.

Next weekend is Get Ready Weekend, where local brigades will be opening up their stations and having conversations with the public around bushfire preparedness and bushfire survival plans.

Hazard reduction – Mount Murray Anderson

The hazard reduction burn in the Ku-ring-gai National Park, north of Terrey Hills and Duffys Forest is continuing today.

Fire activity has increased, and smoke is now more visible as firefighters undertake aerial ignition, slowly lighting sections of the burn down towards Smiths Creek.

The 330-hectare burn is being carefully managed by firefighters, with weather and conditions continually monitored.

If you are affected by smoke, stay indoors where possible, close windows and doors, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity. People with asthma or other respiratory conditions should take extra care and follow their health management plans.

This is an important hazard reduction burn for the Northern Beaches, with the area forming part of a traditional fire path.

Further hazard reduction burns are programmed over the coming days.

Hazard reduction burn – Mount Murray Anderson

Firefighters have spent today conducting a hazard reduction burn at Mount Murray Anderson, north of Terrey Hills and Duffys Forest in Ku-ring-gai National Park.

The 330-hectare burn commenced today and is expected to continue over the coming days.

Fortunately, north-easterly winds are pushing most of the smoke further west, so we’re not expecting the widespread smoke impacts experienced last weekend from hazard reduction burns at Bobbin Head.

However, smoke is likely to settle at lower levels this evening, particularly around Terrey Hills and Duffys Forest.

This is an important burn for the Northern Beaches, as the area forms part of a traditional fire path. It’s great to see this important work being completed today.

Firefighters are expected to continue burning tomorrow, with the operation scheduled to be completed on Monday and Tuesday.

Smoke safety: If you are affected by smoke, stay indoors where possible, close windows and doors, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity. People with asthma or other respiratory conditions should follow their health management plans and take extra care. If you experience difficulty breathing or other serious symptoms, seek medical assistance.

Further hazard reduction burns are also programmed over the coming days.
