This week's selections include Iceberg lettuce, cherry tomato, broccoli and Jalapeño chilli's. Speak to your account manager regarding these specials.
Vegetables:
Vegetable lines continue to feel the impact of the colder winter conditions, with reduced growth rates and lower yields creating pressure across several key items. Lebanese cucumbers, telegraph cucumbers, Roma tomatoes, basil and bullet chillis remain the most affected, with availability and quality fluctuating week to week. On a positive note, most herb varieties are showing improvement, with basil being the notable exception, while baby vegetable lines continue to become more consistent. Iceberg lettuce, cherry tomatoes, broccoli and jalapeño chillis are all presenting excellent value and quality and are our featured lines this week.
Fruit:
Availability remains mixed as cold weather slows production and limits volumes across a number of categories. Watermelon, honeydew, Rockmelon, strawberries and limes remain under pressure, with supply expected to stay tight in the short term. Citrus continues to improve as the season progresses, with both mandarins and oranges becoming more readily available and delivering excellent eating quality. Imported yellow peaches, yellow nectarines and plums from the USA continue to be standout options, providing strong colour, flavour and consistency while local summer fruit remains out of season.
