A note from Skittles 🐾

Have you noticed the girls have been missing from the shop?

No, they haven’t been off on shopping sprees, and no, they haven’t joined me in retirement.

Rhonda… well, she went off and had some elective surgery. The good news is that she’s recovering well, and I’m getting lots of cuddles—even if she doesn’t want them all the time. It won’t be long before she’s back in the shop, and I’ll be cuddle-deprived once more.

Sophie...has taken a temporary break from Parkside Produce with some personal leave. We will miss her and look forward to having her back in the team in the not so distance future. Hopefully she will be back when I come in 'cos I love my Sophie cuddles, and walking all over her keyboard

That’s it from me. I'm cold, and I’ve just spotted a warm spot next to Rhonda. If she moves, I’ll be ready to let her know I’m hungry again! 😺

Night predators can put your poultry, lambs, kids and other valuable animals at risk. Foxlights uses a computerised, varying flash in three colours, with nine LED bulbs projecting 360° and visibility of up to 1 km, helping create the impression that someone is moving around your property.

Powered by a 6-volt battery, Foxlights can be used in shaded locations and through all weather conditions. It is designed as an aid to deter foxes and other night predators, helping you take another practical step to protect your animals.

This week we get to meet Jake, formally a service station attendant, turned hard working, warehousing and customer service superstar!

Jake grew up on his family farm, which is where he developed his passion for agriculture. You'll mostly find him in the shed filling shelves or buzzing about on the forklift. While he is always busy, he is almost always the first one to jump in and help anyone who needs a hand.

Occasionally you'll get lucky, and Jake will be the one out on the road doing your deliveries (we all need a break from our usual daily tasks from time to time!) but mostly he will be the first one to serve our customers. He's great like that!

So next time you see him, say G'Day and ask him about the OGTR! What a cool job that would be.

Some advice for our chicken lovers

Good biosecurity remains the best defence against H5 bird flu for backyard chickens.

There are simple steps you can take to help protect your backyard birds from H5 bird flu:

✅ Use netting, fencing, roofing or other barriers where possible to reduce contact with wild birds or wild bird droppings
✅Keep feed and water away from wild birds
✅ Clean poultry yards and coops regularly
✅ Wash your hands before and after handling birds
✅ Avoid sharing equipment with other poultry owners
✅ Monitor your birds for signs of illness and report any suspect cases immediately

These steps can help keep your birds healthy and reduce the risk of spreading disease.

Find out more at agriculture.vic.gov.au/birdflu and report suspected cases by calling 1800 675 888.

This week we meet the man, the myth, the legend! Edward! 🇨🇮
The Irishman responsible for keeping Rhonda on her toes, as well as ensuring our hay shed reminds fully stocked, and that the stockyards sell.

Ed does most of his work behind the scenes these days, but we certainly notice when he's off visiting family in Ireland, our hay stocks run low, and the place is just that little bit quieter.

Next time you see him in-store, on-farm or at a field day, be sure to say G'Day 👋

While you won't see her in the shop as much as you used to, just know she is always working on something behind the scenes, and is always there to answer any questions you might have.
