Our Café on the Med tasting mast week was a hit 💥 And the star of the show… Abbatucci Cuvee Faustine Blanc from Corsica.

Jean Charles and his daughter Faustine operate the Abatucci winery in Corsica. The estate is farmed biodynamically and focused on restoring indigenous varietals. The estates Abatucci-Faustine collection was created following the birth of Faustine and represent the heart and soul of the winery.

Whole cluster Vermentino (or Rolle 🇫🇷) is fermented in stainless steel and then left to age on fine lees for six months before bottling. The result, a deliciously textured wine with lemon skin, golden fruit and a wicked saline finish.

We were lucky to get our hands on six bottles but they won’t last long.

Castello di Verduno Bassadone Pelaverga is our newest addition to the shop and this tasty bottle is packed with history.

The castle’s origins date back to the early 16th century and viticulture is noted to begin in 1838 where King Carlo Alberto of Savoy acquired the estate and, under the guidance of enologist General Paolo Francesco Staglieno, initiated the production of Barolo wine at the castle.

In 1909 the Burlotto family acquired the vineyard and in 1972 they were the first estate to plant Pelaverga Piccolo grapes in Piedmont. “Bassadone” is emblematic of the poppies in the region but also means “little kiss” as Pelaverga is thought to be an aphrodisiac among the locals 💋

We’re not sure about that… but we can absolutely confirm that this bottle will bring a smile to your face.

Our new biweekly features are straight outta Puglia! Vineka winery was founded in 2016, with a mission to bring the world great Puglian wines from Salento and the Valle d’Itria.

The mineral rich soils of the region deliver wines with excellent texture and length.

Their Rosso is a blend of Negroamaro and Malvasia and the notes of ripe plum and garden herbs makes it an excellent pairing with burgers.

Their Bianco is made from Verdeca, a native Pulgian variety. The palate is electric with notes of passion fruit and lemon, great with chicken tacos or grilled halloumi.

Each bottle is $21.95 (regular $24.95) until August 13.
