I have no idea if I sharpened these right.

I do know that they are sharp and are cutting better then they did before.

So YAY me.

Hunting Green Beans

Every morning i come out to the garden and search through my Green beans for the ones that are ready to be picked.
I love seeing the different stages of readiness all on one plant. From flowers to tiny bean pods to fully ripe, ready to pick Green beans

9 jars of salsa canned last night.

I'll probably have to do another batch to get us enough for the year. But that will have to wait till more ingredients ripen.

Its salsa time

Roma tomatoes, garlic onion and jalapenos from the garden and a green pepper from Hart Farms at the farmers market.
Theres a feeling you get when you can make something (almost) completely from your property. Knowing that I grew it, I chopped it, it cooked it and I canned it.
Its a beautiful feeling ✨️

I heard some movement in the woods and thought it was the turkey mama back with her babies.

Turns out it was a bunch of grouse scratching around.

I love the diverse animal life living on our homestead along with us.

This morning I mad a tower compost using some left over fencing.

I secured the fence into an open circle and started to fill it with the hay and goat dropping from around the goat house.

This compost will rot down and be added to the garden.

What are we wearing for slip on summer shoes?

Ive been wearing my 15+ year old to do chores cause they are easy to slip on and off with bare feet.
But they are sadly starting to fall apart and I need something new.
I use Muck Boot in the fall, winter and spring but the boots are way to hot for the summer.

A few tomatoes, some green beans, an ear of corn and a spaghetti squash.
The first spaghetti squash of the 21+ to ripen 🤦🏽‍♀️

Last night I saved a life

Around 1:30am I woke up to a chicken making noise. Nothing major, just a bawk, a single bawk. But my girls never bawk at night so I decided to go out and check everything was ok.

It was not ok

I did not get eyes on the bu**er but I did hear it climb over the chicken fence and Into the big animal yard (f*cking racoon). There were feathers strewn around and our poor old retired girl was laying on the ground. I saw her move and thought id have to do her a kindness and finish what the criminal started.
I went inside to get my hatchet and when I came back out she was standing.
She came up to me crying and I held her for a bit to calm her down. Her body is in good shape and looks as though she may have been grabbed or bitten on the head.
Today she is up and about, but is a little scared and apprehensive.
I dont blame her, I would be too.

When we were gone camping we hadn't sent the trap and the little murderer walked right beside it. It wasn't on the camera this morning, so it didnt go past the trap on its way to attempting chicken murder.
Must be coming up and over the fencing.
