Little Dog Farm

Little Dog Farm A regenerative agriculture farm on Ktunaxa ?amak?is land, Creston, B.C. In July 2013, our family moved from the suburbs to 5 acres of rural bliss in Langley.

After 6 years of farming that area, we moved to 60 acres in the beautiful Creston Valley, B.C.

Tell me about your craziest impulse buy?
I think we are going to win this game.
Ours is a herd of yak! 13 yaks arrive at our farm in September. ๐Ÿคฃ

Peach season has officially arrived... and so have the sticky hands. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜‚

At this time of year we're permanently covered in peach juice. Hands? Sticky. Faces? Sticky. Steering wheel of the tractor? Also sticky. It's basically the unofficial uniform of summer on the farm.

A lot of people know we are growing cider apples, but our orchard grows much more than that. We grow a variety of fruit that we will use to make cordials, which then become some of the flavours in our ciders.

This year we will be having a bit of fun on the farm, making small experimental batches and seeing where our taste buds take us. No promises... but I'm seriously tempted by a charred peach and rosemary cider. Sweet, smoky, a little herbyโ€”it could be amazing... or it could end up as an expensive lesson. ๐Ÿ˜†

That's half the fun! Sometimes the best recipes come from a sticky face, an overripe peach, and a slightly ridiculous idea.

Would you give a charred peach and rosemary cider a try? ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

UPDATE: We have found Barry a new home just 15 minutes away from here. โค๏ธ

I'm sadly looking for a new home for Barry, the little brown goat in this photo. We had to euthanize his brother this morning after a coyote attack. Barry is hanging with his cow friends for the time being, but he needs a herd.

Barry is 5 years old and came from a clean, tested herd. He's a friendly boy who loves human company.

While I appreciate peoples experience with managing livestock, I am not looking for advice or to bring another goat here at this time.

Located just outside Creston. FREE TO GOOD HOME.

No herbicides beneath our trees,
No pesticides upon the breeze,
No fungicides from spray or drum โ€”
We'd rather let the good bugs come.

For down below, beneath your feet,
A tiny world is hard at work and busy as can be.

The nematodes wiggle, the fungi spread,
Friendly bacteria get roots well fed,
Earthworms tunnel, microbes dine,
And trade the trees what they need to thrive.

Because healthy orchards don't begin on branches high,
They begin in the soil beneath the sky.

We follow the Soil Food Web approach,
Working with nature instead of against it,
Building living soils that grow resilient trees and nourishing fruit.

And with gratitude we remember the work of Dr Elaine Ingham,
Who helped so many growers see that soil is not simply dirt โ€”
It's an entire living community.

The orchard grows downward before it grows upward. ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŽ

Current status: Pretending this stick with a few branches is a future cider empire. ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ˜„
Every wire, tie, and pruning cut is helping shape this espalier apple tree into a productive cider-making machine. Right now it's all hope, patience, and a lot of looking at trees. But soon; fresh apples, pressed juice, and cider in the glass.
Good things take time. Great cider takes even longer.
